🚨🌍 Hydrogen vs. natural gas leaks—what’s the bigger climate culprit? An MIT study reveals hydrogen leaks have about 1/3 the climate impact of methane, but they’re still a concern. Minimizing ALL leaks is key to unlocking clean energy’s potential. 💡 What do you think about this finding? #CleanEnergy #ClimateAction #HydrogenInnovation #Sustainability #EnergyTransition #EnvironmentalScience #RenewableEnergy #ClimateResearch #GreenTech #CarbonFootprint #NetZero #FutureOfEnergy #HydrogenEconomy

𝗠𝗲𝘁𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗲 𝗶𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘀𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗱 𝗺𝗼𝘀𝘁 𝘀𝗶𝗴𝗻𝗶𝗳𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗻𝘁 𝗱𝗿𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗿 𝗼𝗳 𝗰𝗹𝗶𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗲 𝗮𝗳𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗰𝗮𝗿𝗯𝗼𝗻 𝗱𝗶𝗼𝘅𝗶𝗱𝗲. Methane emissions have become 𝗰𝗿𝘂𝗰𝗶𝗮𝗹 in shaping climate goals for 2050, particularly within the energy sector, which accounts for about 33% of global methane emissions. One of the biggest challenges highlighted by experts within the field is the ‘technology minefield’. Companies must first define and articulate their overall goals and strategies for methane reduction and then identify the drivers for their methane emissions sources. Discover current insights into the oil and gas methane emissions reduction space through our attendee responses at the recent 𝗠𝗲𝘁𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗲 𝗠𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗴𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻: 𝗧𝗲𝗰𝗵𝗻𝗼𝗹𝗼𝗴𝘆 & 𝗜𝗻𝗻𝗼𝘃𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗦𝘂𝗺𝗺𝗶𝘁, held in June 2024, along with key takeaways from the summit, shared exclusively on the Industrial Decarbonization Network ⬇️ https://lnkd.in/ekBFrk6B #IndustrialDecarbonizationNetwork

Thank you for this news Deborah Gordon via RMI: "The US has re-upped its global promise to slash greenhouse emissions, including #methane in the oil and gas sector. By 2025, America is now planning to slash its GHGs by over 60% by 2035!"
📣 Did you hear the welcome news? The US has re-upped its global promise to slash greenhouse emissions, including #methane in the oil and gas sector. By 2025, America is now planning to slash its GHGs by over 60% by 2035! 👏 This move is monumental – and this is why it matters: Methane, the main ingredient in gas, is over 80 times more powerful than carbon dioxide in heating the planet over a 20-year period. Atmospheric levels of methane are rapidly rising. To keep the earth from dangerously warming, we must tackle methane and carbon dioxide simultaneously: https://lnkd.in/eU3tAmUU Methane leaks add up. Peer-reviewed research that I co-authored finds that methane leakage as low as 0.2% has net GHG emissions from gas that are on par with that of coal—more here: https://lnkd.in/e32Cqg7a 👍 And here’s the good news: We know how to slash methane fast. Policymakers and industry actors alike can leverage emerging emissions detection data from game-changing methane-tracking satellites like those from RMI partners, including Carbon Mapper and Environmental Defense Fund: https://lnkd.in/etUBqQSJ Leading banks, insurance companies, and industry actors are prioritizing methane mitigation in their business plans. Governments are also rapidly scaling up methane solutions sub-nationally — and internationally. For example, Colorado is an early leader on oil and gas that is also working to slash methane from landfills. More on landfill methane here: https://lnkd.in/e5DgFQnM Invisible methane leakage has persisted, usually undetected, for far too long. But now we can see leaks and stop them. All that remains is the commitment to prioritize methane and keep gas securely contained systemwide. In the New Year ahead, it’s on us to scale the solutions anywhere and everywhere we can. Please join RMI in slashing methane, reach out to me and my colleagues: TJ Conway, Jesse Prentice-Dunn, Dina Cappiello, Shannon Hughes, John Coequyt, Tom Frankiewicz, Cayla Calderwood & Lauren Schmeisser. We can explain how we are working together visualizing and quantifying methane to inform policies and activate markets.

Happy New Month from the Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Associations (Alliance) As December begins, we are reminded of the critical mission ahead: accelerating the global transition to renewable energy and energy efficiency while striving to keep global warming within 1.5°C. This month presents an opportunity to focus on implementing sustainable actions, scaling innovative solutions, and fostering collaborations that amplify our collective impact. Key principles guide our journey forward: - Equity in Climate Finance: Ensuring resources flow to the communities and regions that need them most to advance inclusive and resilient energy systems. - Expanding Clean Energy Access: Driving progress through renewable energy technologies that benefit economies and protect the environment. - Actionable Carbon Management: Supporting transformative practices that reduce emissions and promote accountability. Every milestone achieved strengthens our commitment to a sustainable future. Let’s make December a month of impactful actions, bold leadership, and renewed hope. Together, we power progress. #HappyNewMonth #Sustainability #RenewableEnergy #NetZero #ClimateAction
