The 52nd meeting of the Pacific Forum Leaders in 2023 directed the development of Pacific regional labour mobility principles, in collaboration with the PACER Plus Implementation Unit (PPIU), and other relevant agencies to ensure synergies and avoid unnecessary duplication in the proposed development of the principles. The first regional consultation for the development of the Pacific regional labour mobility principles was held in Coral Coast, Fiji on 25-27 September. In this consultation, the PPIU was represented by the Labour Mobility Specialist, Dr. Alisi Holani, who delivered a presentation on measures to improve coherence and alignment across regional processes and frameworks for labour mobility. The PPIU stands ready to continue supporting the development of the Pacific regional labour mobility principles as directed by Pacific Forum Leaders. #PACERPlus #LabourMobility #Regionalism

It was our pleasure this week to facilitate the 'Exploring the DEI Imperative' workshop with The International Maritime Employers' Council Ltd (IMEC) Recruitment and Training Committee. We had some very rich discussions around the priorities and challenges of DEI with respect to seafarers, those we have now and those we need to attract to the industry, and considering what can be done by way of practical application that has long lasting impact. Across the work that we do, we are seeing ever increasing moves from intent to action, and from ad hoc initiatives to a strategic and joined up approach, not only to get ahead in the competition for talent of those who are already in it, but also to ensure this fascinating industry that we work in becomes equally as fascinating to those we need to attract. #maritime #inclusion #seafarers #warfortalent

Supreme Court of Canada ruling: Managers are not eligible for unionization under the Labour Code "The Association des cadres de la Société des casinos du Québec (the “Association”) represents first-level managers at the province’s four casinos operated by the Société des casinos du Québec (the “Société”). The Association is a professional syndicate within the meaning of the Professional Syndicates Act. Although the Association is not governed by Quebec’s Labour Code (the “Code”), given the exclusion of managers from the notion of “employee” provided for in theCode, this exclusion does not prevent members of the Association from associating. In fact, in 2001, the Association and the Société signed a memorandum of understanding governing certain aspects of the collective labour relations." https://ow.ly/XU1j50Rr7l0 Sometimes getting to “DONE” is as simple as coffee & conversation. Had a good meeting last week in Singapore, organised by the ILO. It was an Employers Leaders network from the Arab States region and the Asia Pacific region. Topics included how to run successful industry member organisations' in increasingly challenging times, and how various countries undertake their tripartite arrangements - between Government, employer reps and union reps. #ILO #SNEF #BusinessNZ

People often inquire about identifying truly Indigenous businesses. For me, it's about looking at key factors - where the business is located, who answers the phone, who pays the staff, and who procures the stock. Consider this example: Countryman Safety is a certified Supply Nation business, yet its address matches Safeman Australia's. Hiding behind a capability partner scenario. Contrasting with others in the industry who manage their own stock, staff, and premises, these discrepancies raise questions. I'm committed to addressing these disparities as progress requires leadership and industry cleanup. Identifying and rectifying such situations is crucial for the integrity of our business community. It's time for a change! #IndigenousBusiness #BusinessEthics #IndustryStandards #supplynation Murri Chamber of Commerce Kinaway Chamber-of-Commerce Noongar Chamber of Commerce and Industry (NCCI)Northern Territory Indigenous Business Network Linda Burney
