Please join us in welcoming our summer intern Brooke Charley! Brooke is a rising senior at Towson University’s School of Business and Economics, majoring in Business Administration with a concentration in Project Management. She has been a welcome addition to the team, supporting multiple busy departments in finance, technical publications, program and project management. She joined us as part of the Southern Maryland (SoMD) 2030 Workforce Development Program. SoMD 2030 is focused on providing STEM career opportunities and expanding partnerships with government, industry, and academia. This collaborative effort is through The Patuxent Partnership (TPP), the Naval Air Warfare Center Aviation Division (NAWCAD), and the Southern Maryland Navy Alliance, connecting talented students with paid apprenticeships and internships. AIRTEC has participated since the program’s inception last summer, hosting two interns, one of which was able to return during winter break. We are excited to be able to continue to support this community career initiative, helping college students gain real-world professional experience, and even more excited for the talented individuals it brings. The application process is highly competitive with hundreds of applicants for a few dozen participating organizations in the area. TPP narrows down the qualified applicants with the final interview and selection process done by the organization. It is incredibly beneficial for all involved and we appreciate the time and hard work that goes into a trailblazing program like this to make it successful. Brooke said she is incredibly fortunate to have been selected to work at AIRTEC this summer. She has enjoyed learning about what it takes behind the scenes to support global airborne missions with our custom fleet of aircraft. Brooke’s biggest influence has been her Dad, who served in the U.S. Navy and she wants to pursue her career supporting the Navy’s mission, hopefully in the local area. She is grateful to have already grown so much by participating in this program and looks forward the next several weeks at AIRTEC to continue learning as much as she can. When asked what she enjoyed the most about working here she said, ‘I enjoy being able to connect with others, and of course, having my office in a hangar is very cool because I get to see the planes all day.” We think it’s cool too, Brooke! We wish you continued success and the best of luck as you finish the program and continue your education! The sky’s the limit! #Internship #SoMD2030 #ThePatuxentPartnership #CareerDevelopment #AIRTEC #GlobalAirborneMissionSolutions

What's the key to attracting top SkillBridge companies in a 2-sided marketplace like FindMySkillBridge.com? Hyper focus on one of the two sides first. In our case, that means companies. Kathy and I set a simple goal for the end of July: to onboard 5 DoD-SkillBridge approved companies. To entice these companies, we're throwing in - Kathy's 6 years of resume writing experience to helping our first companies write amazing listings - Highlighting great listings on my socials and in our growing newsletter - Making it free to list for the first 3 months so we can prove we can attract great internship candidates - Building new features based on what they need to succeed on our platform But we're not ignoring the others in our two-side of our marketplace. We're building a newsletter with transition tips, how to know what you want to do, what it takes to make an epic career, and, naturally - all of our hottest internship listings. How about it? Do you know any existing SkillBridge-approved companies that might benefit from getting more eyes on their opportunities faster? Send me a DM, or repost for reach!

Curious to know -- are there any good information outlets providing teens with advice and options besides the standard college track? Avenues like internships, gap years, trade apprenticeships and job skills training, full-time entry-level positions, military services, etc. That would seem to be of growing necessity given the current college debt and campus climate in the U.S. and the already declining numbers of college enrollment by male high school graduates. #highschoolstudents #collegeplanning

Veteran Career Coach | Retired USAF Leader and Boeing Executive | 20+ years of corporate management and hiring experience
From Rucksack to Briefcase 💼 – Thursday’s Three-Things: Top Resources Where Veterans Can Find Apprenticeships and Internships An apprenticeship or internship can provide valuable training and experience for your target civilian career while you get paid. It also allows you to “trial run” your target career to make sure it’s a good fit for you. The three resources below provide internship/apprenticeship opportunities in the different phases of your transition: 1. While on active-duty: The United States Military Apprenticeship Program helps structure a time-based apprenticeship. These apprenticeships can provide valuable industry experience. and credentials will help you get hired after you transition. https://lnkd.in/eetsyhfR 2. Transitioning soon: The DOD SkillBridge program connects transitioning service members with industry partners. It provides an invaluable opportunity to work and learn in your targeted civilian career areas. https://lnkd.in/eGkxEzhF These internships run between 3-6 months before your separation and you’ll need to get your C/O approval. I’ve recently coached two transitioning service members who got SkillBridge internships. They ended up being hired full-time in high-paying jobs at Fortune 500 companies. 3. Veterans: The Dept of Labor provides apprenticeship opportunities for veterans. https://lnkd.in/eK2krCBs You can find apprenticeships in hot industries such as construction, advanced manufacturing, healthcare, IT, and cybersecurity. Veterans with a service-connected disability may also be eligible for custom apprenticeship programs. For veterans in the Los Angeles area like me, LA County provides internships through its Veterans Internship Program (VIP). https://lnkd.in/efChi_SU Apprenticeships and internships provide unique opportunities to develop in-demand skills while earning a living. This makes them an excellent pathway for transitioning into civilian careers. #Veterans #HireMilitary #MilitaryTransition #Vets #VeteranSupport #JobsForVeterans #Jobseeker #CareerAdvice
