The learning experience through self-paced theoretical modules and exams, live expert webinars, skill-building workshops where we actively engaged with each other has been nothing but amazing! Still, I can't overstate how important all the networking with other young people (although I'm surely on the younger, and less experienced, half) is being for me. The discussions about disarmament are usually the most common, but I've also caught myself following the Pakistani elections, Brazilian rule of Law scandals, learning about data protection, and overall been inspired by some of my colleagues' life path so far. Probably won't have time and opportunities to talk with all the other 99, but every new connection I've made has been a gift, which really shows how capable the selection process was and keeps me grateful for the opportunity that United Nations Office for Disarmament Affairs and Japan -The Government of Japan have granted us. Indeed, the online module is getting rapidly closer to its end, and I'm already feel nostalgic in foresight about being a part of the cohort. Gladly there will be more opportunities to get involved, both for those selected for the study-visit and everyone who will be a mentor for the next cohort of Youth Leaders for a World without Nuclear Weapons. #peace #unitednations #unoda #learning #disarmament #disarmament4youth #portugal #youth #nuclearweapons
Meet the 100! Head on over to United Nations Office for Disarmament Affairs’s Youth Leader Fund for a World Without Nuclear Weapons page at the link-in-bio to check out the inspiring young individuals that have started their journey to become positive changemakers. The participants come from 64 countries, from Australia to Zambia, and each bring their own perspective, experience and goals to the programme. They are already on their way and we are so excited to see where they will go! ▶ https://lnkd.in/e7ZfbstR #UnitedNations #UN #disarmament #peace #security #internationalsecurity #armscontrol #nonproliferation #youth #youthleadership

Honoring Hiroshima: A Call for Peace and Remembrance On August 6, 1945, the world witnessed the profound tragedy of Hiroshima, when an atomic bomb was unleashed, forever altering the course of history and the lives of countless individuals. Today, we pause to remember the immense suffering and loss endured by those in Hiroshima and reflect on the broader implications of this event. This day is not only a moment of remembrance but also a powerful reminder of the urgent need for global peace and the abolition of nuclear weapons. It is a call to each of us to work towards a world where such horrors are never repeated—a world where diplomacy, understanding, and cooperation prevail over conflict. As we honor the memory of the victims and the resilience of survivors, let us renew our commitment to building a future where every life is cherished and protected. May the lessons of Hiroshima guide us towards a more just and peaceful world for all. *P.C:CNBC TV 18 #HiroshimaDay #NeverForget #Peace #NuclearDisarmament #GlobalPeace #RememberingHiroshima #August6 #EndNuclearWeapons #Humanity #PeaceAndUnity

We are in a moment of jeopardy that must be a clarion call for a world free of deadly conflict and free of nuclear weapons. All the incentives point towards proliferation and recalibrated nuclear doctrines to face expanding threats. We have become trapped in something horrifying beyond imagining - entirely of human making. Cool-headed diplomacy is the first order of business. But this is also a time for wise voices who know that the true foundations of peace are not found in the balance of military power but in the power of deeper things - connection, equality, justice, trust, and how we share the gifts of the Earth. We must urgently hold to that.

📝The new realist thinking has always focused on the study of strategic issues such as national security, nuclear deterrence and power balances. However, the agenda of global politics has expanded to include various other issues such as human rights, minorities, ethnicities, terrorism, and the environment. This expansion is reflected in the contributions of thinkers who analyze and address these phenomena. 🔍One of these contributions is represented by the Protracted Social Conflict Theory, which is linked to the analysis of conflicts related to identity. These conflicts are prevalent in the Middle East and the African continent and are characterized by a high level of complexity, both in terms of their backgrounds and causes, as well as their repercussions and effects on the nation-state, its unity, and its future. #PSC #TheoryOfProtractedSocialConflict #middleeast #MENA

This week, as we observe Disarmament Week, let’s shine a light on a pressing global issue... Did you know that nearly 13,000 nuclear warheads remain in the world today!? While this number has decreased since the height of the Cold War, the threat of nuclear proliferation looms over our collective future, particularly with the threat of increased violence between Israel and Iran, both nuclear capable states. Disarmament isn’t just a political concern; it’s a humanitarian imperative. Each year, conflicts fuelled by armed violence result in over 500,000 deaths worldwide, not to mention the countless lives impacted by displacement and trauma. As we commemorate this week, it’s essential to engage in meaningful discussions about how we can collectively work towards a world free of these threats. Imagine a world where every child grows up without the fear of violence—a world where peace is not just a dream but a reality. What if we could accelerate disarmament through innovative solutions and community engagement? I encourage each of you to reflect on your role in this vital movement. What actions can we take to promote peace and security in our local and global communities? #DisarmamentWeek #Peace #GlobalSecurity #InnovateForPeace #SustainableDevelopment #CommunityEngagement

Today, we commemorate Hiroshima Day, a solemn anniversary of a catastrophic event that underscored the destructive power of nuclear weapons. The loss of over 80,000 lives serves as a poignant reminder of the urgent need for global peace and disarmament. As we reflect on this dark chapter in history, let us recommit ourselves to fostering peace, diplomacy, and international cooperation. Only through collective efforts can we prevent such tragedies from ever happening again. #HiroshimaDay #PeaceBuilding #GlobalPeace #curiobuddycares #thisdayinhistory

A couple of years ago, our Peace & Life Connections Editor, Rachel MacNair, developed the idea of calling January 22 the Day of Horror and Hope because of two important events the day represented. The two issues these events represent are the two issues on which our predecessor organization, Prolifers for Survival, focused and remain among the focus issues of the Consistent Life Network. The Horror is the Roe v Wade Supreme Court decision in the U.S. in 1973 which legalized abortion throughout the country - a decision reversed since she developed the idea for the Day. The Hope is the Treaty on the Prohibition on Nuclear Weapons, which came into legal effect on January 22, 2021. While none of the nuclear powers have ratified this treaty, that 70 nations are already party to it, with others in the process of becoming parties, is a sign of hope. There is considerable work still needed to protect the lives both of those in the womb and those threatened by the possibility of nuclear war. Today is a good day to ponder how to further protect the lives of all.

I've been reflecting on recent events this past week and wanted to post my thoughts on the compelling historical parallels that seem to be repeating in current geopolitical affairs. The incidents at the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant bring to mind the 1986 Chernobyl disaster, emphasizing the persistent risks of nuclear energy in countries that are becoming destabilized. President Zelensky's visit to America a couple years ago echoed Winston Churchill's WWII visit with Roosevelt, underlining the vital role of global alliances in maintaining peace and stability. The recent assassination attempt on former President Trump, akin to past events such as the Reagan assassination attempt, highlights the vulnerability of political figures and the necessity for strong security measures to safeguard democracy. And during the past week, #Ukraine, and understandably so, invaded the Russian territory of Kursk. It's worth noting that #Russia has not lost territory to another country since the events of WW2. The world is seemingly becoming more divisive, with correlations to challenging aspects of human history. These serve as stark reminders and warnings, urging us to learn from the past to create a more secure and resilient world. Re-post if you agree. #History #LessonsLearned #GlobalAffairs
