On 9/25 Rep. Deborah Ross (D-NC) introduced the Medical Laboratory Personnel Shortage Relief Act of 2024 (H.R.9849) in the House of Representatives. The American Society for Clinical Laboratory Science (ASCLS) is a strong supporter of this important legislation which would authorize up to $25 million in annual funding for MLS and MLT programs. The bill would also expand the National Health Service Corp program to include medical laboratory personnel. #lab4life #iamascls

Understanding #Precision and #Accuracy in Medical Laboratory Testing In the realm of medical laboratory testing, precision and accuracy are fundamental concepts that play a crucial role in ensuring the reliability and validity of test results. Let's see what sets these two apart and why they are essential in healthcare diagnostics: #Precision: Precision refers to the consistency or reproducibility of results when the same sample is tested repeatedly under the same conditions. In a medical laboratory setting, precision measures how closely repeated test results agree with each other. #Accuracy: Accuracy, on the other hand, is the degree of closeness between a measured value and the true value. It reflects how well a laboratory test result reflects the actual quantity being measured. A highly accurate test provides results that are close to the true value, minimizing systematic errors. Now, why do these distinctions matter in healthcare? #PatientCare: Reliable test results are paramount in diagnosing diseases, monitoring treatment efficacy, and guiding patient care decisions. Inaccurate or imprecise results can lead to misdiagnosis or inappropriate treatments, potentially endangering patient health. #QualityAssurance: Precision and accuracy are vital components of quality assurance in medical laboratories. Strict adherence to quality control measures ensures that instruments, reagents, and procedures are consistently reliable, thereby maintaining the integrity of test results. #ResearchandDevelopment: Precision and accuracy are equally crucial in research settings. Researchers rely on precise and accurate data to draw meaningful conclusions, develop new diagnostic methods, and advance medical knowledge. To ensure both precision and accuracy in laboratory testing, rigorous quality control protocols, regular calibration of instruments, and proficiency testing are indispensable. Continuous training and education of laboratory staff also play a pivotal role in upholding the highest standards of analytical performance. As healthcare professionals, it's our responsibility to uphold the principles of precision and accuracy in every aspect of laboratory testing, ultimately contributing to improved patient outcomes and advancing medical science. Let's continue to strive for excellence in healthcare diagnostics! #MedicalLaboratory #Precision #Accuracy #HealthcareDiagnostics #QualityAssurance #PatientCare #HealthcareProfessionals

All the hard work is paying off in a low staff vacancy rate and other achievements by WDL, which was recently named a 2024 Lab of the Year Runner-Up by Medical Lab Observer. “We are making a connection. There are a lot of programs and initiatives we are doing. We don’t have any temporary staff or traveling staff working in the lab. We have been able to develop our own team and average a 4% vacancy rate,” said Mike Baron, WDL’s Executive Director, Clinical Laboratory Operations, in an interview with The Dark Report. WDL’s unique recruiting, staff development, and education initiatives... Read The Dark Report article at https://hubs.ly/Q02xG_kH0 Not already a subscriber?
