Safety Concerns: Implementing rigorous safety protocols to protect workers and the public. Continuously assessing and mitigating risks on-site. Despite these challenges, the sense of accomplishment when a project is completed successfully is unmatched. Civil Engineering is a profession, but also a concept and role I'm personally striving to understand more deeply this year. Being an ENGINEER is challenging, but for me, being CIVIL can be the ultimate test of integrity, patience, and endurance. I like to joke that my alter-ego is the "un-civil engineer" or "uncivilized engineer". The question arises, "can a civil engineer be effective without possessing or developing a civil demeanor?" Perhaps for a short while, but mastering something like civil engineering must take a lifetime. A lifetime of critical thinking and devising technical solutions - certainly; but also a lifetime of collaboration, teamwork, and admitting your mistakes. Is it more important to be a good engineer or to be civil? Something tells me the answer is yes.
