These days, there’s plenty of advice on social media about nutrition, weight loss, and healthy living. While well-intentioned, it can often be unrealistic, poorly researched, and ultimately unsustainable. Much of this advice is oversimplified, suggesting drastic measures like cutting out entire food groups or reducing meal sizes to extremes. This can potentially do more harm than good. It also tends to follow a cookie-cutter approach with similar diet plans and exercise routines for everyone. This is like trying to fit a square peg into a round hole because not everyone has the same body type, metabolism, or health conditions. What works for a 20-year-old fitness enthusiast might not be suitable for a middle-aged office worker or someone with specific health issues. True health and wellness comes from balanced, long-term habits, not from the latest social media trend. Be critical of the advice you see online. While not all of it might be ill-informed, we need to understand that nourishing our bodies with good food and self-care is our responsibility. This means doing our due diligence before blindly following everything we see on the internet. It could also mean rewarding yourself with a slice of pizza, your favourite cheesy burger, or a big bowl of rajma chawal every now and then. Or eating clean all the time, if that’s what you prefer. There is no one-size-fits-all approach to health and nutrition. As long as we make an effort every day to thank our bodies for everything they do for us, we’re on the right track.
