#ICYMI 🚚We've partnered with the Road Haulage Association (RHA) to drive safety home to drivers of large tippers, trailers, crane truckers or skip hire vehicles to avoid our overhead power network. Drivers are being reminded to plan their route before tipping their goods, driving unfamiliar routes, or when driving in poor light conditions as we head towards winter. Gareth Pearson, Northern Powergrid’s Director of Health, Safety and Training said: “Our new partnership with the Road Haulage Association will target hauliers directly through their network and drive home the vital safety message that overhead power lines are extremely hazardous. “Thankfully incidents are low across our region, however, just one strike is one too many and we’re encouraging drivers to ‘Look Up It’s Live!’ before raising and lowering the bed of their tipper truck and manoeuvring vehicles. “Even if you drive a particular route you’re familiar with for regular deliveries, bear in mind that ground levels or clearance heights may have changed since the last visit. Think and plan every journey to avoid our electricity network and return home safely to your family and loved ones after your shift.” Pete Short, Head of Business Development for the Road Haulage Association said: “We are delighted to join up with Northern Powergrid on this campaign to keep lorry drivers and others around them safe. We urge operators to ensure that their drivers are fully equipped to minimise risks of collisions with overhead power cables and know what to do if an incident occurs.” Read more: https://ow.ly/bMmz50TjM5H

Every year 1,300 people are involved in forklift-related accidents. But it is not lift truck operators who are most at risk — it’s those around them. A RIDDOR report into forklift truck accidents revealed that 43 percent of incidents involved impacts with a third party. Unlike operators themselves, third parties are often on foot when such accidents occur, leaving them more vulnerable to serious injuries. The sad truth is that these types of incidents can almost always be avoided. That’s why at Caswells we ensure all forklift training is done internally so the operators are trained to our high standards, and our managers are trained on how to look for bad driving behaviours. #CaswellsGroup #SafetyAtWork #ForkliftSafety #HealthAndSafety

A fundamental expectation among drivers is that the commercial trucks sharing the highways have undergone rigorous safety assessments, ensuring that they meet the necessary standards to operate safely. Unfortunately, the current truck safety rating system falls significantly short of fulfilling this crucial requirement.
