I believe that creating a culture of inclusion and belonging is essential not only during PRIDE month but every single day. We all hear this statement….but… it is so important that we truly do this. When we all strive to do our best to ensure fairness and kindness, we can truly make our world a better place. Supporting and uplifting colleagues, relatives, neighbors and friends with diverse backgrounds is for me about more than just acceptance—it's about engaging and doing what you can to build an environment where everyone can thrive. Those that know me well know I love Umbrellas ☂️. Just as an ☂️ provides shelter from the elements, an ☂️can offer BELONGING, protection, comfort, and a safe space for individuals to be their authentic selves. Please join in and “Be an ☂️” when you see there is an individual or group of people who need support. Your ☂️ can give every person, regardless of their identity shelter and support. We all have a role to play and here are simple things we can all do that can make a difference: 💡 Listen and Learn about the experiences and challenges individuals are facing. 💡 Raise Your Voice to challenge discrimination and advocate for inclusive behaviors and practices. 💡 Create Safe Spaces and ensure that our workplaces and communities are safe and welcoming for everyone! 💡 Honor the uniqueness each person brings. Thanks to a collaborative update to our ISS Diversity & Inclusion strategy 2022-2025, we’re thrilled to showcase the strategy’s First Nations artwork. ‘Belonging’ by First Nations artist and descendent of the Gamilaroi Nation Stephen Hogarth brings to life what we strive for as an organisation – to be a Company of Belonging. We provide workplaces that will improve culture and operational performance by embracing, respecting and celebrating inclusivity. A key focus of this strategy is to support and foster First Nations Peoples’ cultures and identities, which makes Stephen’s work especially significant. He uses symbols throughout his artwork to represent ISS values, including belonging, diversity and connection. “All of these elements intersect to create ‘belonging’ and it is inclusion and unity that strengthen this vision … I hope that the artwork is thought-provoking and creates an energy to come together to achieve respect and positive outcomes for all Placemakers,” Stephen says.
