Dartmouth one of the Ivy League’s has reinstated standardized cresting in their admissions process. Their decision was based upon studies by social science professors regarding SAT/ACT. Their study found that standardized test scores are a better predictor of success at Dartmouth than GPA. It is also an established fact that GPA and standardized tests are highly correlated. Hats off to Becky Quick for asking a basic question related to college affordability 3 different ways to Sylvia Burwell the President of American University. Why 3x’s? She won’t answer the question. Good news, if you had Value Propisition as they key word in your drinking game, your taking a shot 8xs. No industry has raised prices over decades more than higher education. When a question like: How did Mitch Daniels manage to do it over a decade and other universities can’t? Crickets from all other presidents. Enough is enough with higher education price escalation. If we’d like to talk “value proposition” fine. Let’s compare the ROI of college today vs decades ago. It’s nowhere close. Why? Tuition increases at the top of the list.

Deficit-minded thinking kills dreams and allows a system that helped to create inequalities in the first place keep going. “This approach also implicitly encourages deficit-minded thinking. Instead of addressing a fragmented curriculum as contributing to the problem of student attrition, or reflecting on opportunities to improve instruction, or asking what the institution could do to support students in entry-level general education courses, deficit-minded thinking ascribes students’ challenges to their own lack of preparation or low motivation, or worse, places the onus on already marginalized students for the fact that the system fails them, further perpetuating inequities.
