🚀 #JPM2024 #CGT 2024 predictions are out! What does 2024 have in store for #celltherapy , #genetherapy, and #oligos and #mRNA?: A Year of innovation, growth, and placing of bets Despite a challenging 2023, the field saw several new approvals, including the first #CRISPR-edited therapy in Vertex Pharmaceuticals's #Casgevy. You can read our full thoughts on what 2024 should bring in Cell & Gene (thank you Michelle Raley): https://lnkd.in/gwHn_D5S Some highlights by modality: 🧫 Cell therapies will continue to see a focus on manufacturing, improving #CMC and #bioprocessing methods. We'll see more of the shift from #viral to #nonviral editing and a broadening of cell types beyond T-cells (e.g., NK cells). There will be new, exciting approvals and we'll see continued shift beyond oncology indications to inflammation/immunology but companies will have to consider what indications are financially viable. Paraphrasing Alliance for Regenerative Medicine's panel yesterday with Andrew Obenshain: #theprocessistheproduct 🧬 Oligos and mRNA will continue their advance. On the one hand, oligos have proven their importance and shown broad market potential. The field will continue to go after broader indications beyond #raredisease. While we expect less #acquisitions, we expect a number of approvals. on the #mRNA front, expect heavy investment in new indications around #genetherapy for "one-and-done" treatments. This will also be the year that #pharma dives in and starts placing more material bets as programs reach proof points. ⬡ #AAV gene therapies are facing headwinds due to immunogenicity and safety issues with the concurrent broadening of mRNA. We expect a shift in indications from monogenic disorders to using AAV as a broad delivery vehicle. Think dual vector and splicing strategies. Continued emphasis on manufacturing and utilizing efficient producer cell lines.
