After attending my organizations leadership summit this past week, I reflected on a question asked of us during our division breakout session; "Why do we work safe"? Taking in account my vast years of experience and the roles I've held while at my previous employer, I reflected on "Why I work safe". This is my safety commitment to Beacon, and what I will read to my team during tomorrows safety meeting then post on our safety wall. Why I Work Safe I work safe because my life is interconnected with so many others who depend on me—my family, friends, loved ones, colleagues, employees, and my organization. Each day, I have a responsibility not just to myself but to those who count on me to come home safe, healthy, and capable of continuing to contribute to their lives. Safety is not just a job requirement; it’s a mindset that extends to every aspect of life. Whether I’m at work, on the road, or spending time with my loved ones, prioritizing safety ensures I can continue to fulfill my roles and responsibilities. It allows me to support my family, collaborate with my colleagues, and be present for the milestones and everyday moments that truly matter. When I commit to working safe, I’m also leading by example—empowering those around me to recognize the value of safety. By fostering a culture where safety is a shared priority, I help create a ripple effect that can prevent accidents, protect livelihoods, and build a stronger, more responsible community. Ultimately, safety is about respect—for myself, for others, and for the opportunities life provides.
