Hotel Management | 15+ Years Inspiring Leaders | Passion for Training, Process, and Service to Others

Giving back to Penn State students with an endowed award is such a rewarding way to channel my philanthropy. Here’s a few reasons why… 1. It gives me to opportunity to connect with amazing students like Gabriela Mutone to support her college experience and give gratitude for what she has done for the THON and SHM community. 2. It puts my donations to work in an endowment that will continue to give in perpetuity, even after I’m gone. 3. Award criteria is customizable for the donor. I was honor my two largest Penn State passions, SHM and THON leadership. 4. $1,000 per quarter for 5 years is the commitment for an award level giving, with it being awarded once you fully fund it. This was a great way to channel my annual giving into one source. 5. Naming the gift brings awareness that allows me to connect with other potential donors and share why I decided to give this way. It also normalizes planned giving for all, removing the misconception that it requires decades of wealth and six figures gifts. As a steward and champion for Penn State School of Hospitality Management, if you’re interested in planned giving and have any questions - please connect with me. In future years I’d love to see more awards named for our tremendous alumni. #weare #pennstate #shmproud

I am extremely honored to have received a student award at the Penn State Hotel & Restaurant Society Alumni Awards Reception. The Ashley Akright THON Leadership Award, which was presented for the very first time last night, is dedicated to a student who has leadership involvement and participates in THON. A special congratulations to my peers that also received student awards at last night’s reception, including Grace Blanchard, who received the Jason Harner award, given to a student with leadership in THON. Grace is SHM THON’s Family Relations and Social Media Chair. Well deserved! As I enter into my second year as Primary THON Chair/President for Penn State School of Hospitality Management’s Organization benefitting Penn State THON™, I am truly grateful for everyone that has supported me along this journey, specifically the SHM faculty/staff that have nominated me for this award, and especially Ashley Akright for her generosity towards this award.
