Meet Ella! This summer Ella joins AKS as a landscape architecture intern, before returning to Washington State University for her final year! Ella will be graduating with a landscape architecture degree. What part of the AKS internship program are you most excited about? “Learning about the process of taking a project from start to finish and seeing how everyone works together in a multi-disciplinary firm to complete projects with extremely wide scopes! I’m also excited to learn more about being able to effectively communicate with not only other landscape architects, but also the engineers, surveyors, planners and more who come together to work on projects.” Find Ella painting and reading in her spare time! #AKSIntern #Learningopportunities #Meettheteam #Internship

I have officially reached the end of my 12 month internship under the guidance of NPN architects and BZ Three Built Environment Consultants. I couldn’t have asked for a better work place environment as a “fresh out of university” Profesional Architect in the making. As I prepare for the next chapter architecture has for me, I would like to share a few things that I have learnt throughout my internship. 1. Ask! Don’t be afraid to ask for help, that’s how you learn. Be inquisitive, never leave a question unanswered. 2. Patience. Be patient with yourself. You’ve just started your professional career, you’re not supposed to know everything. 3. Draw. If all else fails go back to your drawing board with a piece of paper and a pen or pencil in your hand. I cannot wait to apply this pocket of knowledge as I further seek to learn from everything and everyone around me.

If there ever comes a time when we can manipulate time (let's just ignore how that statement can mess with the mind for now), would I take up the opportunity to do so? The age gap in our team can be up to 2 decades (20 years!!). And obviously it will only increase with time. Typical generational cultural disconnects aside, our respective professional attitudes inevitably also differ. It can be a source of conflict, even though the field of work is clearly the same - in design or architecture. This is further complicated when you bring in another party - the client. How they engage with us, will inevitably also be a reflection of how their own generation deal with matters concerning professional work. It can be complex dynamic! I very often struggle with finding the balance. It seems simple enough: understand the client, understand my team tasked to that project, understand my own professional expectations as someone approaching my mid-40s, understand the whole consultant team. Then give up and dive in with eyes open. Maybe that's all that matters. Treat the passage of time as what it is - something that ceaselessly moves forward, taking us all along for a ride so long as we are mindful, and don't take the minutiae too seriously. Afterall, as my parents used to tell me laughingly, despite my distinct lack of amusement, 'Last time policemen used to wear shorts....'. #prosearchitects #staycoolandfunky #policemenusedtowearshorts https://lnkd.in/ghgnFqNQ
Not many events (other than TOP dates) remind us of the passing of time more than a valued colleague leaving to pursue further studies. Celeste Ng joined us with a Part 1 Bachelor of Architecture from National University of Singapore a year ago on 1 July 2023 with an intention of gaining some experience working in a small architecture practice before furthering her studies with a Part 2 Masters of Architecture. Fast forward a year, after witnessing first hand the ups and downs, highs and fumbles of Prose Architects, she leaves us to embark on another exciting chapter of her life. We wish her all the best and to enjoy her experiences always. Serendipitously, Prani Patton rejoins us after a short internship stint in 2023, now with a newly obtained Part 1 Bachelor of Architecture from Melbourne. In a similar fashion, she will be with us for at least a year, before she furthers her studies with a Part 2 Master of Architecture. Below wefie by Alvin Liau after a team lunch, with the best backdrop we can find in the vicinity. We are open to alternative backdrop suggestions for that lunch/dinner a year later... #claritythroughdesign #prosearchitects #funatwork #selfimprovement

Elevate your architectural internship by drawing on-site! Being "on-site" is not limited to project sites, so... Anytime you're outside - You're on-site. Not all #internships may include project site visits within the first few months but don't let that hold you back, visit your nearest built/on-going buildings and start sketching what you see! These are sketches from a precedent site visit, done yesterday during lunch, with colleagues. ↳ on paper: drawn on-site but cut short because we had to leave. ↳ on tissue: drawn from memory just before eating (channeling the creatives who draw on serviettes when out with other creatives) - it's a real thing. 😂 There are many sketches, but I'm sharing these ones because they show how spontaneous and loose sketches can/should be. Don't overthink it, just start. P.S: Find out "why?" in the comments...

I am pleased to announce that I have successfully completed my summer internship with Arabcontractors . This practical experience in architecture has been incredibly enriching, and I am proud to receive a grade of “Very Good” for my performance. During my training period, I learned: •Carpentry, how to make wrenches, and most architectural things, theoretically and practically. •Buildings and how to build them correctly, theoretically and practically. •Paints and how to finish walls and shells. •Also, reinforced steel and everything related to it, and how to calculate the reinforcement needed for the work. They gave us a lot of encouragement and care and were keen enough to teach us all they know about the construction in whole, starting with the foundations of the stairs , moving on to the interior finishing and false ceiling of the concourse level, leading to the interior and exterior finishing . #Internship #Architecture #ProfessionalGrowth #ArabContractors #EngineeringSkills #Achievement #Engineering #SummerInternship #Engineering #ConstructionInternship

As I am now a few months into my internship, I can say I have learned a lot. The knowledge that has been provided to me during this internship is unforgettable and much appreciated! Here is a list of a few things I have learned: - How to set up, use, and properly layout a site using GPS equipment. (Pictured Below: 2 gate Values and a Tee) - How to correctly calibrate a site utilizing GPS equipment. - How to mathematically check interferences in new utilities with existing utilities. - A better understanding of plan reading. - How to wet tap a waterline, without shutting it down. - How to do topsoil cut and fill calculations. - A better understanding of how to correctly install utilities per an engineer's standards. #indianaCTE #internships #architecture @AsherAlden Southern Indiana Career & Technical Center #KobersteinContracting #careertecheducation @SICTCEngineering&ArchitectureAlumni J.
