🚀 Kjell A. Nordström at BRAND MINDS 2024: A Glimpse Into the Future 🌍
The second speaker at this year’s Brand Minds event was none other than the renowned Swedish economist and author, Kjell A Nordström. Famous for his unconventional take on business strategies and the future of the global economy, Kjell delivered a thought-provoking talk on the destructuring of globalization as we’ve known it for the past 40 years and the rise of what he calls the “mini worlds” of the globe.
🌎Furthermore, in Kjell’s view, corporations will switch their strategy in the future from “multicountries companies” to “multiurban companies”. They might not focus on having large footprint in multiple countries but rather in main cities of the specific countries. How does this perspective will change our day to day life?
🔧 To stay ahead of the curve, Kjell recommended that we stay close to the industries experiencing the fastest changes due to global pressures, such as the automotive sector. This is where the future is being built, brick by brick, or rather, innovation by innovation.
💡One of the interesting concepts presented, was the “streaming payments”which refers to a future where payments are made continuously and in real-time, rather than in outfront transactions. This concept is aligned with the way digital services, such as music or video streaming, are consumed today—users pay for access as they go, without owning the product. This is a big shift of mindset and culture, going from paying for “owning” products to paying for “having access” to certain services.
🏙️Another fascinating insight was the prediction of a future dominated by urbanization. According to Kjell, humanity will increasingly concentrate in 650 key cities worldwide, as these urban centers symbolize hope—hope for finding love, a great job, and a fulfilling life.
✨ Sitting in the audience, it felt like I was traveling back and forth in time, getting a sneak peek at what’s coming.
My biggest takeaway: Despite all the current talk about crisis and permacrisis, which are real and tangible in many sectors, there is immense growth ahead. The challenges we face today are the very forces that will deconstruct and rebuild society—and with that comes opportunity.
📈 After all, history shows us that cycles repeat, and from every breakdown comes a breakthrough.
