How far can a luxury brand stretch its scent? The first fragrance mist for dogs by #DolceGabbana may raise eyebrows. A 99-euro alcohol-free scent for your dog crafted by renowned perfumer Emilie Coppermann with delicate YlangYlang, Musk and Sandalwood notes may seem a little excessive. However, the campaign is brilliant and it may be the perfect gift for those infatuated with their dogs and who have it all (and I know a few). They may well be "the adored-show-off-pet-show" only perfume option. One of the biggest misconceptions in the beauty industry is that luxury and sustainability can’t co-exist.   At The Perfume Movement, we’ve set out to change this belief. I had the pleasure of speaking at the beauty brunch yesterday and delving into the world of beauty & luxury. A truly interesting subject in an ever evolving world. Luxury has traditionally meant exclusive, expensive and frankly rather unattainable - one word often missing is quality. Is this an expected value or only sometimes relevant? I was interested to read about the futurist Jared Weiner’s additions of the 3 T’s referring to Time, Truth & Trust. Shedid & Parrish Ltd was not conceived as a ‘luxury brand’ per se but we did want to create the best possible product for the salon space that was accessible to all. Affordable luxury perhaps… and when considering this revised model we actually fit in perfectly. ⏱️A range that saves time, based on the concentration of beautifully sourced ingredient to enhance long term hair health, 👩🏽🦱A personalised range formulated for the tightest curls through to the loosest wave. Carefully conceived to be inclusive of all curl patterns giving them the moisture & nourishment they so desperately need, 🌿And last but not least an authentic, honest brand that aligns itself with brands & personalities with similar values. Thought Experiment nº4 - On Niche Perfumes: when weird redefines luxury terms  #niche #nicherperfumes #beauty #singularity #newluxury #luxuryredefined    The cultural revolution carried by social media has not only redefined how we interact with others, but also how we take care of ourselves and our image. The booms of the fashion industry, the beauty industry and specifically the perfume industry are all proof of the extra care and attention consumers put in those aspects of their lives, as well as the development of new areas of interest for them. One of the most industry-reshaping areas of interest is niche perfumery. With “niche”, polarizing scents and weird brand worlds have occupied visibility spaces for consumers taking away the attention from classic luxury brands and their offering. New perfume fanatics communities emerging online prove the extent of the fandom... and redefine expectations towards a luxury perfume experience. If there’s one thing with niche, is the huge variety of fragmented territories and directions it can take. However, one key insight to rule them all: fragrance fans are more interested in smelling peculiar than smelling pleasant. What this tells us, is the unprecedent personal dimension consumers do now search in perfume. This has ramifications on how perfume brands can approach these new expectations, by diving into the more personal need for connection and self-expression, with others and with themselves.
