📲 e-SAATHI: Chat-Based #MaternalHealth Solution for Assam’s Remote Communities
: Empowering expecting and new mothers 🤰 by meeting them where they are.
🗓 As the National Safe Motherhood Day on 11 April approaches us, it’s important to acknowledge the crucial role access to timely and comprehensive maternal care plays in improving maternal and neonatal health outcomes. Pregnancy is a critical period during which women require regular check-ups, support, and education to ensure the health and well-being of both themselves and their babies.
⭐ The e-SAATHI initiative is launching tomorrow with Boat Clinics in Assam to reach the vast networks of islands that lie along the winding course of Brahmaputra. The Boat Clinics in Assam organize more than 3000 camps annually and reach more than 2.6 lakh people across the islands. Starting off, the initiative will be launched in the boat clinic in Chhaygaon block in Kamrup Rural and is expected to reach and serve a population of 16000+ in the district covering 341 villages in the Char areas. As the partnership expands, the askNivi Maternal Health Journey will be made accessible to the remotes islands along the 891km course of the river.
👉 About askNivi Maternal Health Journey 🤰
The askNivi Maternal Health Journey launched in April 2023, under e-SAATHI initiative, is a solution aimed at empowering pregnant women with critical health information and access to quality care. In the year gone by, more than 6500 pregnant women have received weekly WhatsApp messages on health tips, ANC/PNC visit reminders & facility experience & service related follow-ups. The initiative that started with 12 private facility partnerships and scaled to 172 public health facilities in 3 districts of Assam is now going to be much bigger and stronger. askNivi’s Maternal Health journey is personalized to each mother, offering guidance and support from pregnancy through to the postnatal period, spanning 42 weeks of content. By facilitating engagement with healthcare providers and delivering timely health information, askNivi aims to bridge the gaps between pregnant women and the healthcare system by meeting the patients where they are, in the language and context they are familiar with to drive improved outcomes for their and their child’s health.
👉 About Boat Clinics in Assam
Started by Centre for North East Studies and Policy Research (C-NES) in 2005, the Boat Clinics enable access to healthcare for the most vulnerable and marginalized people in Assam located across the thousands of islands along the Brahmaputra river. Today, on an average 18,000 – 20,000 people are treated every month in the districts, individuals who were earlier beyond the reach of government programmes because no doctors or paramedics would go on a regular basis.
