Pakistan’s development expenditure has experienced a significant decline in the first four months of the current fiscal year, with only Rs. 81 billion spent on development projects from July to October 2023. This is well below the Rs. 1,100 billion allocated for the Federal Public Sector Development Program (PSDP), of which only Rs. 384.65 billion was authorized for spending during this period. The expressway that will run from Kisumu in Kenya to Kakira, a town in Jinja district, will involve rehabilitation of the existing two-lane single-carriageway to bitumen standards and the upgrading of the same into a two-lane dual carriageway over a 104km stretch. IFRAP Updates- Central Development Working Party (CDWP) approves Multiple significant Projects for Balochistan* Islamabad, February 1, 2024 – The Central Development Working Party (CDWP), chaired by the Deputy Chairman of the Planning Commission, approved two significant projects for Balochistan during its meeting. The CDWP also endorsed the Rs. 13,809.544 million Post-Flood 2022 Reconstruction Program for Balochistan's road infrastructure. Sponsored by the Planning & Development Department of Balochistan and executed by CWPP&H, this initiative aims to rehabilitate 386.3 kilometers of roads and construct 19 bridges across 24 flood-affected districts over a 3-year, 1-month period. Rs. 6,000 million has been allocated in PSDP 2023-2024 to kickstart the project. Additionally, the CDWP reviewed the Infrastructure Rehabilitation Resilience Enhancement Post-Flood 2022 project for health facilities in Balochistan, amounting to Rs. 1600 million funded entirely through a World Bank loan. This initiative targets the reconstruction of 30 flood-damaged health facilities, focusing on flood-resilient construction, solar systems, medical equipment procurement, and capacity building for health personnel. The project incorporates environmental impact assessments, waste management plans, and provisions for senior citizens and differently abled persons.
