Very Pinterest-esque in my opinion. 🤳 TikTok (again) is incentivizing creators to post content in landscape mode. Is this part of a bigger plan (like pushing for longer-form content) to increasingly compete with YouTube amongst younger demographics? 🔥 Signs that the US consumer is still very strong... A few weeks ago, I attended the Insider Intelligence eMarketer Webinar: The Social Commerce Opportunity, discussing the potential of discovery based shopping, Gen Z, and TikTok Shop 🛍 📈 Despite Social Commerce sales continuing to steadily rise, with the average annual spend per buyer set to nearly double between 2023 and 2027, it’s getting harder for retailers to convert new buyers. This is for a number of reasons: ❌ Most growth is driven by existing buyers upping their spend on purchases, rather than by new buyers. ❌ Not every social media user will convert into a buyer. ❌ Loyalty is lacking between new customers and retailers. However... Gen Z could be the group to break this trend 👊. Based on our research, we have seen that: ✅ Gen Z value peer recommendations, and are more prolific at favouriting, commenting, searching and sharing things that they come across online. ✅ Gen Zers on average spend 16 hours per week on TikTok, making it a prime engagement platform where their exposure to different TikTok Shop retailers is vast. This is also helping to redefine the way that social media is used for online shopping. ✅ Gen Z have a high engagement rate with retail apps, with Amazon dominating.
