Fair Play or Foul Play?
I've been thinking a lot about the high cost of food and drinks at multiplexes.
We've all seen the advertised deals for popcorn at ₹99, only to find the reality is much higher at the concession stand. This creates a frustrating experience for customers, leaving us feeling like we're being nickeled and dimed.
Here's a question:
- Cinemas argue that concessions are a secondary revenue stream, and raising ticket prices would be less acceptable to customers. But is this a fair trade-off?
Here's another perspective:
- Concessions are a captive market within the cinema. Customers are limited in their options, and that can lead to inflated prices.
Interestingly, only about 27% of people currently buy food and beverages inside a theatre.
Wouldn't lowering concession prices potentially encourage more people to purchase items, ultimately increasing revenue for cinemas?
This could lead to a win-win situation for both businesses and moviegoers.
I'm curious to hear your thoughts! Is this a fair business practice, or is there a better way for cinemas to generate revenue without feeling deceptive?

Great Initiative by Mukta Arts / Cinemas. A Family of 4, Spends more than Rs. 2000 on a film outing which includes Parking+Ticket+Convinience Charges+F&B. Movie watching is not just cinema experience, It involves time, money, Me time wali feeling and much more. But high costs are big big turn off, Resulting in chosing and watching only selected movies.
And I'm not talking about premium Cinemas, Recently even #KaranJohar mentioned this in one of his interview:
Excerpts "Johar said in a roundtable with The Hollywood Reporter India that an average consumer reduced their outings to the movie theatres to 2 times a year. He added that the average spending of a family of four can come out to be Rs 10,000 if they decide to go for a movie outing."
*Courtesy business today
A family who used to go to movies 2-3 times in a month. Hardly watches a movie once in a month. Thats not good for business and mostly hurting low budget good movies. You reduce ticket & F&B prices, and see the results. All the best to Mukta.

Cleanliness is such a strong customer priority that people will spend more money to go to clean movie theaters and restaurants rather than go to those that aren't meeting standards even if they offer the same exact things.😎 Cleanliness is a value proposition that you can offer. What happens when the ad is so much better than the movie?
I would watch a whole movie if it was under the Liquid Death brand universe. Seriously this ad made me finally get past the first 5 minutes without falling asleep.
Hypothesis: If this movie was a little more Liquid Death it would be more like Starship Troopers and less like a bad Star Wars knock off and be the hottest new thing right now.

Picture your favorite sports bar.
What's in it?
Big TV's. Good sound system. Good bar food. Cold beer.
But what else?
The best ones do the little things right, every time.
All the big games are on.
All of them are situated strategically on TV's where no matter where you're sitting in the venue you can see the game you came to watch.
All have back-up plans in case someone asks for a game to be on a particular TV, the TVs can get re-situated for optimal viewing.
All recognize the biggest and most sought after game as the one with the game sound on through out the venue.
All have great service.
Any one can open a sports bar and have the first list of items I mentioned.
Not everyone can consistently execute on the little things and that is what the difference is between a sports bar and great sports bar.
