It is little wonder that BHP sees such a bright future for copper demand - afterall, the Big Australian recently doubled down on its acquisition of OZ Minerals by outlining a vision to increase production at its South Australian operations to more than 650,000 t/y copper in concentrate by the mid 2030s. The plan is to expand the #OlympicDam (OD) smelter, firstly through the 'SRE' Project that would install a new primary furnace in front of the existing smelter, potentially paving the way for a second phase that would match total production from OD, Prominent Hill, Carrapateena and possibly OD Deeps and Oak Dam. Indeed the OD smelter has been running pretty much flat out this year, now that it has concentrates from Prominent Hill and Carrapateena to blend with those from the adjacent mine, which carries a high sulphur load that was previously leading to bottlenecking issues. For an asset that has struggled to attract capital in the portfolio after the demise of the mammoth $30 billion ODX project at the beginning of the last decade, the future suddenly looks a lot brighter. https://lnkd.in/e9ZZuFqm Want more production detail on this or other smelters? Magnetite Mines is pleased to provide an update of activities and financial results for the quarter ending 30 September 2024. This quarter, the Company achieved several important milestones relating to the development of its flagship Razorback Iron Ore Project. Following the execution of a Heads of Agreement in July 2024, the Company progressed negotiations with potential joint venture and funding partner JFE Shoji Australia Pty Ltd. The two parties are targeting execution of binding Definitive Agreements in Q1 2025 in line with the Heads of Agreement. A milestone development during the period was the formation of the ‘Green Iron SA’ consortium, established to develop a new green iron industry in South Australia in alignment with the state government’s State Prosperity Plan and Green Iron & Steel Strategy. The Company’s Razorback Project is an essential enabler for green iron production. Led by Magnetite Mines, the consortium comprises established logistics operators and developers including Flinders Port Holdings Pty Limited (port) and Aurizon Bulk Logistics (rail), along with as respected engineering consultants GHD. The Razorback Project permitting and approvals process has been prioritised, with preparation of the Mining Lease Proposal (MLP) nearing completion. The global demand for copper is increasing, and South Australia has some of the world’s finest copper resources. It was great to share some perspectives on BHP’s South Australian operations and plans for growth at the Copper to the World Conference. We have growth projects either being studied or actively underway at all three mines, our smelter/refinery, and Oak Dam project - on top of our operations. $AR1 - Copper producer Austral Resources Australia is pleased to announce the results of a Mineral Resource Estimate (MRE) for the existing Mt Kelly Heap Leach stockpile on Austral’s heap leach pads, neighbouring the Mt Kelly treatment plant. Austral’s Chairman, Mr David Newling, provided the following comment in relation to the MRE:“Establishment of the MRE for the Mt Kelly Heap Leach stockpile represents an outstanding outcome for the Company. The MRE is another step for Austral towards its strategy of repositioning as a leading Australian midtier copper production company. The results are extremely exciting with the outcomes and cut-off grades commensurate to the proximity of the stockpile to the Mt Kelly Facility and the very low-cost nature of the stockpile re-mining. Ecora Resources PLC CEO, Marc Bishop Lafleche and CFO, Kevin Flynn provide highlights of the 2024 Half Year Results.  “Our portfolio contribution in the first half of 2024 was up 15% year-on-year, driven by a strong performance from Kestrel. H2 portfolio contribution is expected to be principally weighted to the Group’s other producing royalties including production volume growth at Vale's Voisey’s Bay and Capstone Copper's Mantos Blancos mine. Further production growth at Voisey’s Bay is expected thereafter as underground operations ramp-up up to steady state production levels. “Capstone Copper’s updated Feasibility Study on the Santo Domingo project reiterated the project’s robust economics and potential to operate within the lowest cost quartile of global copper mines.
