The ultimate goal of streaming services is to direct eyeballs to content in order to raise advertising and subscription income. As the market continues to be saturated with 89% of all US households having at least one paid service subscription, and 41% of households using an AVOD service in the past 30 days, bundling services together will continue to be a tactic to find and retain new subscribers. ⭐ Bundles of content indicate a discount and consumers appreciate the ability to get a good deal on their streaming content. Google TV Network funnels YouTube-hungry advertisers to FAST service Google has been growing its connected TV (#CTV) offering, and has just announced the “Google TV Network”—introducing ad-buying capabilities for its 125 free live channels—forming part of the tech giant’s FAST (free, ad-supported streaming TV) push. This marks Google’s effort to grow its CTV presence beyond that of YouTube. It would be hard to ignore the rise of YouTube as a dominant CTV format that has benefitted from allowing users to stream content on the wide screen and accounts for a large portion of CTV ad revenue. Nevertheless, YouTube has also undeniably been a boon for CTV viewership overall, pulling users to watch streaming content on their smart TVs and dongles. Connected-TV will soon just become known as ‘TV’. Smart TVs have created the foundation for consumer access to streamed TV content that has facilitated an increase in both viewing numbers and desires for unique content creation; the streaming behemoths now offer ad-tiered propositions due to business and consumer needs; and the rise of FAST is set to rapidly change the face of the EPG due to its flexibility that can be suited to both audience interests and content distribution. 2024, however, is where the momentum really picks up, now that the broadcasters are truly embracing the digital world of TV. They already have strong VOD offerings and command large advertiser budgets, but are now in the midst of understanding how they can use their vast swathes of first-party data to real effect and integrate into the digital ecosystem totally. They’ve also started to delve into other CTV channels such as FAST, whilst licensing their content to other platforms to maximise exposure.
