31 years in, and we’re still fighting! March is the League’s anniversary month, and it’s prompting us to look back on some of the milestone victories we’ve accomplished throughout that time. From cancelled leases in the Arctic Refuge to the massive “Shell No” campaign that was years in the making, we’ve had a lot to celebrate over the years. What wins do you want to celebrate with us in the years ahead?

Today we reached a milestone in Expedition 400 of the International Ocean Discovery Program: We finished coring on two deep water sites in Baffin Bay while having recovered the first 1000 m of sediment core. Next we will move eastward onto the west Greenland shelf where icebergs continue to be a steady dance partner. Like “Loopie Loui” forcing us to make a move just a few days ago (see photo). Onboard the research vessel Joides Resolution we are 27 scientists from 9 countries devoting two months of our lives to uncover an outstanding geological archive hidden deep below the seafloor west of Greenland. The purpose of this endavour is to understand the evolution of the Greenland Ice Sheet and its response to climate warming in the past. Key questions we seek to answer are: Has there been periods of major ice loss in NW Greenland over the last 2 Million years? How does the ice sheet interact with the West Greenland Current? When did glacial expansion in West Greenland first take place? If you want to know more here are some useful links: https://lnkd.in/ezmEmfA8 (Danish) https://lnkd.in/eKjy9TXi

In New York City this week for the #UNGA and working towards some concrete #oceanaction. On the 20th September 2023 the High Sea Treaty, which took over two decades to negotiate, opens for States to ratify. The #RaceForRatification is on, we need more than 60 States to ratify ASAP to enable the mechanisms to protect more than half of the planet. @HighSeasAlliance
