Make D&I a priority across all parts of your business. Our client was looking for ten new software engineers and recognised the need for change. Lacking diversity and female representation in their existing team, we addressed the situation head-on by delivering three coaching sessions on unconscious bias during the recruitment process. The result? A transformed team of highly skilled consultants that thrives on contributions from individuals identifying as Black, female, socially mobile and neurodiverse. “Cognitive diversity is now a catchall that allows managers to continue to hire white men and chalk it up to diversity as long as the new hires think, work, or learn “differently.” To be sure, having diverse viewpoints in an organization is important, but only focusing on cognitive diversity won’t address the well-documented dearth of Black and Latinx employees that plagues tech companies and represents a major shortcoming. Whether intentionally or not, tech companies can redefine diversity so that, conveniently, they’ve already achieved it simply by hiring those with personality quirks.” #cognitivediversity #white #males #engineers #culturaldiversity #hightech #define #diversity #definition #blackexcellence #latinoexcellecence https://lnkd.in/gsF7DiHx

The tech industry is often hailed as a "leader in innovation," but when it comes to workforce diversity, there’s still a long way to go. Despite growing awareness, the gap remains, especially for underrepresented groups. Building diverse teams is essential for driving new ideas and perspectives in an industry that thrives on innovation. #Diversity #DiversityInTech #TechWorkforce #Innovation

Diversity is important. There are countless articles and studies looking at the benefits of cognitive diversity within businesses. But how do we track and measure that change? Kayleigh Graham, Head of Partnerships and Growth at Telleroo looks at how diversity quotas are one of the strategies that businesses can use to set a requirement for a certain number of employees to be from a certain demographic/minority group. But the nature of a diversity quota, which requires people to be quantified based on their identities, raises some important questions. Are these quotas introduced because of a genuine desire to diversify a workforce? Or is it merely a ploy to appear to be ‘doing the right thing'? Read the full blog here > https://bit.ly/4aT4Re6

NEURODIVERSITY - very excited that our Diversity Committee is bringing an internal class on neurodiversity to Banner Witcoff this month with group sessions later this fall. Diversity of thought IMHO seems to not be generally sought in law, but is vital for creative thought and so much more. So many of our successful entrepreneurs are dyslexic. So many brilliant minds are considered on spectrum. Many companies like Bank of America, Comcast, SAP and many more are hiring individuals with specific neurodiverse characteristics now understanding that they bring talents (“superpowers”) that make them more suited (help them excel) for some jobs over others. So how can we help our clients with neurodiversity? Perhaps we will start to get some answers. I have long believed that the concept of neurodiversity encompasses all of us through our unique datasets we have accumulated over our lifetimes through our backgrounds, which includes our age, where we grew up regionally, our ethnicity, our religion (if applicable), our gender, our gender identity, our sexual orientation, and our education. Each acts as an “algorithm” for what data enters our brain and how we construe the world. #diversity #neurodiversity #neurodivergent #inclusion #creativity #DEI Micheal Binns, Esq. Elizabeth Lester

🌟 Hiring diverse talent is 🔐 what about Retention?? 🤔🌟 The recent Harvard research sheds light on the challenges faced by Black women in predominantly white teams, emphasizing the importance of not just hiring but retaining diverse talents. Based on the Harvard Research : ✅ Black women in teams with more white colleagues face an 8.9% higher turnover compared to white women. ✅ A 14% increase in white coworkers corresponds to a 10.6% higher turnover. ✅ Challenges in task assignments and interactions with white colleagues contribute to negative outcomes. When Black women work in teams with more colleagues who share a similar racial background, it tends to have a positive effect on their job retention, possibly by fostering a more supportive and inclusive work environment. The vibrant discussions on technology across social media might create an impression of workplace diversity, but the reality often contrasts. Many of us end up being the sole woman, woman of color, or black woman in our teams or organizations (working with or being led by a black woman feels like a rare luxury). It's like stepping into a new mansion or location without a guiding "MAP" to navigate the roads or challenges. While some persist in figuring it out solo, the majority face burnout, leading to a decline in retention and undermining the intent behind diverse hiring efforts. Here PlusOne steps in🚀 We're dedicated to bridging this gap and serving as your indispensable "MAP." No need to navigate solo! 🌐 Our video platform connects you with top-tier advisors in tech and business around the clock.
