“It was great to come back to Edmonton to reconnect with friends and family, but still be at the centre of global finance.”   Alan Marr, CFA, AIMCo’s Managing Director of Client Management, reflects on what drew him back to Alberta after starting his career further afield — and how working for an organization focused on delivering results for Albertans, keeps him here.

AIMCo’s Chief Risk Officer Suzanne Akers, CFA, FRM took the stage at the Toronto Global Forum, joining Morningstar CEO Kunal Kapoor, to discuss the importance of client centricity in how AIMCo seeks investment opportunities and assesses risks as it works with a large, diversified, global portfolio. Thank you to the International Economic Forum of the Americas for the great discussion at this year’s #TGF.

AIMCo staff found a way to turn routine technology upgrades into an opportunity for charitable fundraising to empower prosperity in Alberta. Read more about an innovative campaign to benefit the AIMCo Foundation for Financial Education, which supports post-secondary student scholarships and registered charities that deliver financial literacy programming across the province.

AIMCo's Sam Spencer, CAIA (left) was invited to co-chair this year’s IREI Springboard conference, an event dedicated to developing the next generation of institutional real estate leaders. Sam first attended the conference as an early-career real estate professional. Her role as co-chair demonstrates the professional development that such events can propel — sharing the stage with keynote Onay Payne, Senior Managing Director at Manulife Investment Management (centre) and co-chair Melanie Schiff, Managing Director, Co-Head of Product Management & Investor Relations, Real Estate, Ares Management (right). Sam is Director, Real Estate, Analytics, Research & Governance at AIMCo.

At AIMCo, we strive to always embody the theme of this year’s World Mental Health Day: “It’s time to prioritize mental health in the workplace.” Krista Pell, AIMCo’s Chief People, Culture and Engagement Officer, is speaking today at the Wellbeing at Work Summit, where she’ll discuss how AIMCo’s flexible work arrangements, mental health benefits and development programs help to create an environment where employees can thrive.

We are pleased to announce the successful completion of our investment in IndiGrid, India's first and largest listed power sector infrastructure investment trust. It was fitting that Meghna Singh, who leads AIMCo’s Strategy & Innovation team, was a host at #EnergyDisruptors 2024, a Calgary conferenced focused on challenging assumptions and accelerating change. Meghna shares her learnings below, including inspiration offered by extreme weather athlete Andre Belibi who presented at the conference from an ice bath positioned on the stage!

Today marks the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation – a day to bring awareness to the tragic truths and on-going legacy of residential schools on survivors, their families, and communities. We acknowledge and honour that, from coast to coast to coast, we stand on the traditional territories of First Nations, Inuit, and Métis peoples. Through reflection, commitment, and collective action, we will advance down the path of Truth and Reconciliation together.

At AIMCo, we prepared for the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation by listening to Karen Chaboyer, author and residential school survivor, share her story. Karen is a member of the Rainy River First Nations and her goal is to educate people on the profound impact residential schools have had on her and Indigenous communities across Canada.   The National Day for Truth and Reconciliation is a call to action for all of us to reflect on the truths of our history and to stand in solidarity with Indigenous communities across Canada. Andrea Kenyon is a Managing Director on AIMCo’s Private Debt & Loan team, where she manages a portfolio predominantly comprised of U.S. leveraged loans and other select private credit investments. In her recent interview with Institutional Investor, Andrea discusses the challenges facing private debt today, her role in overseeing private debt investments and the strategic initiatives that have driven AIMCo’s success.
