I’m set to arrive in Barcelona, Spain, later than expected for Nuatanix .NEXT conference. Despite the delay, I’ve come to appreciate the unexpected pauses—they offer a moment to breathe and reflect on the journey ahead. It’s a reminder that even in the fast-paced world of tech, patience can be a virtue. However, my recent encounter with airline customer service was a stark contrast to the excitement of my trip. It’s disheartening to see the decline in customer care standards. A friendly approach can go a long way, especially when travel plans go awry…. American Airlines …. Remember, excellent customer service is the cornerstone of any great experience! Once I do arrive, it will be a joy to reconnect with my incredible team from Nutanix and Veeam Software Are partnership in launching Nutanix Mine with Veeam was such a great experience and I’m glad I can still attend and support such an amazing product and platform, and I’m keen to delve into the latest insights and advancements of Nutanix’s newly released products. Today, I'm contemplating in-person vs. hybrid vs. virtual events. I'd love to hear your observations, questions, and predictions about the future. It's so interesting to look back on the evolution of events since the pandemic started. Four years ago the end of RootsTech marked the beginning of the shutdown. The next year was the first virtual event, a seismic shift in approach. Last year, returning to in-person, I was anxious because I worried I had lost my ability to "people." I ended up having a great time, but still had to warm up. Today, I am headed to RootsTech again contemplating the ways that events are still evolving. I've seen societies and trade associations struggle to break even on both their in-person and hybrid events. Some have shuttered altogether, others are doing online only. I'm noticing other big disruptions in the family history world, and not only because of the pandemic. What is next for the industry? These are questions I am contemplating this year. Also, it's crazy to think this is the seventh time I've been a speaker at RootsTech.

2nd day at theNTWK Summit 2024 in Barcelona, and it's quickly become my new favorite event. This summit is perfectly balanced and organized event where minds from multiple industries and corporate sectors converge to think deeply and share knowledge on the fascinating realms of #Ecosystems, #Platforms, and #Marketplaces. The content is top-notch, crafted and delivered by some of the smartest people in the field. It's been an amazing learning experience to hear directly from industry leaders and visionaries who are at the forefront of this evolving landscape. The discussions are rich with insights, exploring how interconnected ecosystems can drive innovation and sustainable growth. Ecosystem thinking, as highlighted during the sessions, is more than a business model; it's a strategic approach that fosters collaboration, resilience, and value creation across networks. By leveraging platforms and marketplaces, businesses can not only thrive in their own right but also contribute to the broader ecosystem's health and vitality. The organization of the summit is excellent, providing a seamless experience that enhances networking and idea exchange. 🚀 Excited to share some highlights from the #INGRoup2024 conference in Charlotte, NC 🚀 In a joint session with Marvin Grabowski, Liana Kreamer, Ph.D, and Bishan Wang on Hybrid Teams, I got to present my new research on a more nuanced approach to understanding and operationalizing hybrid work beyond the typical WFH percentage. By considering factors like alignment in office days among team members, we can better capture the complexity of hybrid work and study its impact on work outcomes. 🔍 ➡ Key Insight for Better #HybridWork Focus on alignment in office days: Such alignment will help reduce perceptions of uncertainty related to the work location of fellow team members and enhance employee performance and satisfaction. Another highlight was the inspiring keynote by the Early Career Award winner Anna Mayo. She emphasized the importance of "wandering" in our professional lives. Echoing Kara Lawson's words, "If you have a meaningful pursuit in life, it will never be easy," Anna advocated for exploring fields and subjects related to our research but not directly within it. While this may seem counterproductive, it often leads to meaningful insights and epiphanies, allowing us to see the world from different angles. 🌍 ➡Takeaways on #Wandering Broaden Your Horizon: Don't be afraid to dive into areas adjacent to your main field. Let curiosity guide you to new knowledge and innovative ideas. Beyond the knowledge-driven content, two social events stood out. The Friday night event at the NASCAR museum was a blast! We drove simulators and performed a pit stop with fellow conference attendees, showcasing our teamwork skills. 🏎️🏁 Additionally, the social meet & greet for students, which I organized as part of my role as the Student Representative on the INGRoup board, was a huge success and a lot of fun. 🎉 ➡#SocialHighlights Forming connections: Organizing and participating in social events during professional conferences fosters valuable connections.
