This GAOverview is part of our series aimed at helping officials better prevent and detect fraud, waste, and abuse. Abuse of federal resources occurs when someone behaves improperly or unreasonably, or misuses a position or authority. Gao found 3 key challenges to identifying abuse of federal resources: - Officials don't always know what counts as abusive behavior based on program policies - Some programs and operations don't have as much oversight as others—making them prime targets for abuse - Some government activities—such as delivering foreign aid or domestic emergency response—may present unique risks of abuse Click here to read more: https://lnkd.in/gZztUpDt #FederalPrograms #FederalResourceAbuse #riskmanagement

As per new the new report by the Réseau National de Défense des Droits Humains (RNDDH), of the at least 208 people slain in Haiti's violence between January & March, included: - 7 passengers killed aboard a sailboat between Mariani & Gressier - 9 charred bodies found on a landfill in Delmas 19 - Married store owners in Bassin-Bleu decapitated by armed bandits - 4 occupants of a minibus slain in the Artibonite Valley - 5 slain in Portail Léogane by armed men in a car - 10 slain aboard a public transport bus along the Port-au-Prince to Mirebalais route - An 80 year-old man man executed in Léogane's Hôpital Sainte Croix by unidentified armed individuals who burst into the operating room - A 7 year-old child hit by a stray bullet in Pétionville's Bellevue 3 area - A journalist hit by a stray bullet in Delmas 19 This new report is a stark illustration of how NOWHERE in the capital or environs (or indeed, a number of other locales in Haiti) are safe, & that death can strike at any time. There is really no way to overstate the daily terror people in Haiti face at the present time. Citizens in Haiti are today forced to live under criminal anarchy, gang terrorism & economic collapse at a level that is an affront to human dignity. To the world at large, do not grow fatigued of this issue & don't stop talking about it. We must all help however we can.

“It is vitally important for federal agencies to be vigilant about upholding the U.S government’s zero tolerance policy for human trafficking, especially in contracts paid for by our own taxpayer dollars. Today, on #WorldDayAgainstTrafficking, my partner Mona Sehgal and I, along with our great staff, released another important evaluation of federal agencies’ actions to do so and make recommendations to improve these efforts at DOD, State, DHS, and USAID. Biden's executive order targeting violent Israeli settlers is what we call in Arabic "7aki fadi," or empty rhetoric. Biden is trying to win back some Arab voters, but they will see through this charade The reason is, there's no meaningful enforcement mechanism. And without one, these criminals will continue to attack innocent Palestinians, steal their land, and block their receipt of aid. As Abed Ayoub of the American Arab Anti-Discrimination Committee points out on X (link in comments), there is no transparent way to identify settlers, short of the Israeli government offering that information to the United States. And that won't happen by a long shot. There *is* a viable enforcement mechanism, were the United States serious about punishing settlers and curbing their extremism. Subject American citizen settlers to criminal and civil charges back home. Sadly, the majority of violent Israeli settlers in the West Bank are American citizens. Opening them up to the American criminal justice system will be a meaningful deterrent. These are bad faith actors who are harming the United States both at home and abroad; it is in American interest to bring them to justice. But will the US go that far?
