This new 80s nostalgia packaging design from Lean Cuisine is brilliant. They really nailed it, and whoever did this work deserves a high five. 80s and 90s nostalgia is on the rise and has years of runway. Millennials and Gen X who want to remember their youth, and Gen Z who long for a simpler more analogue way of life are going to be after this zeitgeist for awhile. Having lived through the 80s the first time around , I have to say most of the CPG products (especially frozen) in the pre-Whole Foods landscape were AWFUL in terms of flavor and health benefits. Let’s not just go retro packaging with poor quality product and call it a day. Lean cuisine and other conventional CPG should take the opportunity to go retro with their packaging and get into the 2020’s with their ingredient deck in one feel swoop. 👉How about lower sodium, regenerative organic, responibly sourced proteins, grains and vegetables with small producer collaborations? 👉How about introducing new spices and herbs into the mix, and really going for it? Consumers are smarter than big CPG gives them credit for. 👉As long as the price is reasonable, people will appreciate quality and they can turn a packaging gimmick into a real brand refresh with lasting tailwinds. A product has 2 seconds to tell a consumer 🕵🏻♀️ what is this 🕵🏻♀️ why should I buy this Flo caught my eye at Whole Foods I was on the checkout line and this was right next to some snacks and other misc items that you typically see while waiting I picked it up but only because I was confused and had the time to sleuth 🍨Their plant-based packaging is a win for sustainability, but the structure takes me to ice cream immediately 🤔 Is it just me, or does it feel confusing for period care? 💛 Melted heart branding takes me to cheese? Is it meant to be a uterus? ❓Unclear sustainable value prop- biodegradable, zero nasties in their tampons ❓Fun design but confusing I actually first saw this at the expo and when asked about why they chose a carton that’s typically associated with ice cream, they said it was for fun What do you think?
