My first 100 days at Tesco have really flown by but I thought I would reflect a bit on my time so far. - Moving to a new job, and a new team after so long working in one organisation and industry could have been really difficult, but I have to say it's been made really smooth and enjoyable by my colleagues. - Even though in-house PR has similarities in the way you work and the skills you use, there are also so many differences in how companies operate that have to be taken into account. - Also, Transport for London didn't really have competitors in the same way Tesco do, but you have to do your best each day to make your company stand out rather than following the crowd. - I've discovered so many different parts of the UK I'd never heard of before, mostly from lots of local news journalist queries. The saying "All news is local news" still holds weight today even with cuts to local journalism. With stores across the country, and more planned for the coming years, it's a chance to build relationships with local outlets as well as grocery/retail/consumer industry contacts. - There have already been some exciting opportunities to get involved with and I'm gradually getting to know different people around the business. It can be easy to think you're working at a mammoth organisation until you leave for an even larger one! I look forward to making a dent in speaking to the hundreds of thousands of people across Tesco - hopefully for more positive opportunities than negative stories! - Walking to work on days in the office, having more time outside - particularly in the rare moments of ☀️ - and being around to see more of my kids has been definitely made a difference. I have more time to think about life and work, and it has taken the stress out of commuting without being at the mercy of traffic, strikes or delays. - The amount of free samples of food, drink and other bits is also something I don't think I was expecting, with brands showcasing nearly every week as well as special celebrations and festivals! Excited to see what the next 100 days have in store for me (pun intended). "Retail at Holiday Time (30 years ago)" - Worked in retail or restaurants at some point? I can totally relate. A big shout-out and much respect to all the hardworking retailers out there this holiday season—you’re the real MVPs. Throwback to 30 years ago: Black Friday at Camelot Music, where I was a Store Manager. Yes, back when buying music meant physically visiting a store! I spent 13 years in music retail, working my way up from Assistant Manager to District Manager. Those years shaped me in so many ways, teaching me about people, management, and resilience. They also taught me how to recover after making mistakes, thanks to some understanding bosses who believed in me. If you’ve ever worked retail, you’ll know it’s no easy gig, but I’d argue that being surrounded by music made it a little more fun. Helping customers find their favorite songs and staying on top of new releases? Not a bad way to spend a workday. Retail taught me lessons I still carry with me today. Lessons I now share with candidates and clients at Riderflex. For those still in the trenches this season, keep grinding. A few weeks ago, in the rush of everyday life, I took this picture as soon as I got home. In the rainy weather I faced the challenge of finding a parking spot near Woolworths' entrance, as my mind raced with thoughts of groceries and work task still in my mind. As I hurried through the aisles, pondering if I need milk, and also trying to hurry up as loadshedding will start in my area soon. As I stand at the till, I reached for my wallet, thinking dinner is now sorted after a very long day. Amidst the chaos, the packaging caught my eye, prompting a pause to read its message. In that moment, I realized two things: ➖ Woolworths ingenious messaging strategy. Effective marketing, like this, fills me with inspiration as I had to giggle as the emotional unfolds on their message. ➖ Despite me being in a rush, they succeeded in capturing my attention and compelling me to engage with their brand. Reflecting on this, I couldn't help but smile. In the whirlwind of our lives, it's easy to overlook the subtle yet impactful branding efforts of companies around us. As this week unfolds, I encourage you to embrace a slower pace. Take a moment to appreciate the things around you. #marketing #brandinging #woolies

What a great reminder of the power of good food to lighten up stressful office moments. 🥳 Starting yesterday, the campaign aired a charming 30-second spot, developed with McCann Manchester. The story wonderfully showcases how Aldi's quality food can help ease inter-office tension. Perfect timing too - launched on 'Blue Monday' when everyone could use a mood boost. Louise Cassidy from Aldi nailed it, saying, "Good food lifts all of our moods. January is a challenging month for many households. However, at Aldi, we firmly believe our Irish customers can save money whilst not having to compromise on great quality food." This campaign will be widely visible - from TV and radio to social media and in-store. It's an omnichannel effort that's sure to resonate with many.
