Exciting news! Edison has been selected to participate in the 2024 ParaTough Cup Games on March 21st, 2024.   What’s the ParaTough Cup? It’s not just any event – it’s the signature fundraising event of the Paralympic Foundation of Canada. Picture a half-day corporate challenge combining fundraising and sport competition. On event day, teams engage in three Para Sports – Wheelchair Basketball, Sitting Volleyball, and Para Ice Hockey, alongside some of Canada’s Paralympians.   Did You Know? ·      The Paralympic Games operate independently from the Olympic Games, meaning any funds raised for the Olympic Games do not benefit the Paralympic Games. ·      Unlike their able-bodied Olympic counterparts, Canadian Paralympians are not compensated for podium finishes. Canadian Olympians make $20k for gold, $15k for silver, and $10k for bronze.   Why Should You Care? Your support directly impacts the future. T20 cricket confirmed as one of five new sports at LA2028 Olympics. One unexpected outcome of this may be on #CSR. Schedule 7 (list item 7) states that "Training to stimulate rural sports, nationally recognized sports, Paralympic sports and Olympic sports." are eligible for CSR. Cricket now is an Olympic sport! Be ready to see a deluge of cricket training programs (incl international trainings) included inside CSR. Outside of my career in solution engineering, I dedicate a lot of my time to helping young kids learn how to play #cricket 🏏 and #Rugby 🏉. I believe playing in team sports at an early age helps you develop a whole bunch of different skills that you will use in later life no matter which path you take. The biggest successes I’ve had in my career have all been as a result of good teaming and building on the skills I learned when I was younger in #Cricket 🏏 and #Rugby 🏉 teams. Communication, collaboration, leadership, motivation, empathy, problem solving as a group; just a few of the skills you can pick up when starting in teams at an early age. During the summer months I run the All-Stars programme at Beckwithshaw Cricket Club and coach both an under-7 and an under-9 team that compete in leagues and cup competitions within the Nidderdale leagues in Yorkshire. I'm helping around 50 kids, aged 4 to 9, fall in love with cricket and enjoy one of the most sociable and fun sports that anyone can play. As well as the skills required to play cricket, I’m also trying to develop the team work skills I believe will serve them well in later life. Now for my ask 🙏 : This 🌧 summer 🌧 has been one of the worst, if not the worst, due to the relentless rainfall in the Harrogate area. I've had to cancel and reschedule numerous games and training sessions because, even when the rain stops, the Beckwithshaw cricket ground, The Stag Den, remains so waterlogged that it's unplayable. Many children have been disappointed as they haven't been able to use the facilities. Consequently, we've missed a lot of valuable time together, which has hindered their ability to develop teamwork and cricket skills. To prevent this from happening in the future, and to give these keen youngsters some more time playing cricket and working in a team, my club, Beckwithshaw, has launched a crowd funding page to raise money for the drainage that is so badly needed for our ground. We need to raise 💰 £7,500 in 6 weeks💰 and if we do this Sport England will match our donation which will help us get to the £15,000 we need to improve the drainage. Did you know that more than 54,000 of those fuzzy yellow spheres get used every year? That's a whole lot of bouncin' balls! And did you know that they get switched out during matches to make sure they're at exactly 68°F and ready to go? But what about all those used balls? Well, lucky for fans, they can buy them every day. But get this, almost 700 of those balls disappear every year - probably snatched up by eager souvenir hunters. I mean, who wouldn't want to take home a little piece of the action? But wait, it gets even cooler! Since 2001, some of those tennis balls have found a new purpose. They’re being donated to animal conservations around Britain to help create homes for adorable harvest mice. So, the next time you're watching a Wimbledon match and see a tennis ball go flying, just think - it could end up becoming a cozy little home for a furry friend. Stronger together! South Africa celebrates the Springboks glorious victory in the Rugby World Cup Final. Thank you Bokke for bringing it home! With three consecutive one point leads the words from Sunel’s blog written post the nail-biting quarter final still ring true. “We perhaps have to walk a different path towards the progress we desire. Because if we don’t, and we continue to believe that our outcome toward decay is inevitable, it will become our reality. If we do not envisage a better future, from a different position, it cannot become a reality. ... you do need to take off any lens of hopelessness you are wearing, stop the negative talk, roll up your sleeves and think of a new game plan. Start training even. The Springboks are just one example of the excellence that can be achieved by the magnificent people of this country.
