Port security involves measures and procedures implemented to protect ports, vessels, cargo, and personnel from security threats. These threats can include terrorism, smuggling, piracy, theft, and other criminal activities. Port security measures are essential to maintain the integrity of global supply chains and ensure the safe and efficient movement of goods. Watchkeeping refers to the practice of maintaining a continuous and vigilant presence on board a vessel to ensure its safe operation and navigation. It involves the assignment of designated individuals to specific duties and responsibilities during specified periods. Watchkeeping is essential to prevent collisions, groundings, and other accidents at sea. Effective coordination between port authorities, vessel crews and relevant agencies is crucial to ensuring a secure and efficient maritime environment.

Since our establishment in 2007 we have proven extensively that the industry can be safe and secure through basic principled application and education without the need for on-board armed services. Through a well thought out and planned implementation and extensive crew training we have secured vessel on over 7700 transits through high risk areas. Robberies at anchor or in port reduced to 0.0003% of all transits due to our due diligence training and vessel implementation. Due to the extremely high costs of armed security and the risk posed having armed services on board, clients have been able to negate better discounts with their underwriters and insurers contracting GMSS than with any armed provider. Clients often negotiated discounts exceeding 50% of their standard rate at the height of piracy. Attacks on vessels with our implementation and training reduced to 0.0006% on the total number of transits completed where our implementation and training was done on fleets. Crew retention rates for our clients improved to an average of 96%+ across their fleets. The industry are left with three choices: 1.) Remain exposed, 2.) Remain dependent on armed service providers and the high cost associated with those service, 3.) Become safe and secure through GMSS training and implementation. Criminal acts against shipping is not going to decrease, but your preparedness and ability to self protect against these threats can decrease exposure and requirement for armed services.
