Oregon Hazards Lab field technicians installed another new wildfire camera this week on Jordan Butte. This camera will give firefighters another tool to detect and monitor wildfires in Morrow County. The camera feed will soon be available to watch at alertwest.live. Jordan Butte also hosts the JOBT seismic monitoring station, which is part of the Pacific Northwest Seismic Network. Co-locating sites provides mutual benefits. Seismic stations can take advantage of the cameras’ solar panels and high-bandwidth telemetry, whereas cameras benefit from seismic sites’ high standards for constant up-time, automatic failover, and redundancy. Additionally, co-locating sites improves statewide resiliency for the multitude of hazards Oregon communities face, which cannot be addressed by a single-hazard detection system.
