I rarely comment on sports as I'm an idiot of sport. However, Lee Zii Jia's recent bronze medal win at the 2024 #Olympics deserves recognition and reflection. LZJ's journey to this achievement has been far from smooth. Sadly, he faced humiliation and criticism from many fellow Malaysians along the way - a disheartening situation when we should be supporting our athletes. Every professional experiences peaks and valleys in their career, but LZJ's ability to bounce back and secure a bronze medal is a textbook example of resilience. We've seen many give up when they hit rock bottom, but LZJ proved that perseverance pays off. His unwavering spirit is truly commendable. Moreover, his high-level emotional intelligence in not engaging in social media arguments with his detractors shows remarkable maturity and focus. To those who humiliated and teased him, I pose this question: What have you achieved in your personal life, and how have you contributed to our country? It's easy to blame, accuse, and tease, but self-reflection is indeed challenging work - regardless of where you are in life. LZJ's victory is not just about the medal; it's about the spirit of never giving up, about rising above negativity, and about representing Malaysia with dignity. It's a reminder that success often comes after periods of struggle and that true strength lies in perseverance. Let's celebrate LZJ's achievement and use it as inspiration in our own lives. His journey teaches us valuable lessons about resilience, focus, and the power of staying committed to our goals despite adversity. Once again, congratulations and thank you, Lee Zii Jia!

🌟 Founder of Swimin12 | 🏊♀️ I love to take away people's fear of water & grow my employees into multi-million dollar entreprenuers | 5x Biz @ RM 8Mil/year @ Msia & India from the bottom up in 15 years.
I have been brought up to believe things or services from other countries like Australia, UK, and America have always been far more superior than whatever Malaysians are making. I didn't like it when people say: "Malaysia standard is like that one lah." So, I persisted in creating Swimin12, a system proudly designed, invented, and branded in Malaysia. Fighting an uphill battle without the instant fame from association with other countries, I had to work twice as hard by focusing on delivering results, constantly innovating better ways to teach, and always something new every year. Better training, better choice of words, better understanding of kids, better games, psychology, coaching standards, etc. That's why I open 7 days a week including holidays 8am-10pm. When I can't win in money, association, or brand, I make up for it by working harder. In 15 years, hundreds of people are served from Australia, China, and Korean coming regularly and now moving to Singapore for people to come to Malaysia to conquer their fears of swimming. We even export 6 coaches @ 12 entries entering India to teach more than a hundred happy students. A good lesson is that we have to believe we have so much potential. If we want to make our country proud, know that it's a tough battle. But if we work hard enough, constantly innovating, be patriotic, Malaysian systems are not inferior at all. Malaysians have what it takes to invent great products & services too. But we have to believe it, be crazy enough to swim against the tide. Other great Malaysian brand: TOP GLOVE (World largest glove maker). AIRASIA (serving over tens of millions of people). LIM KOK WENG UNI (90% of students are non-Malaysians). RONNY CHENG (Comedian who often promotes Malaysia). SHANGRI-LA, PETRONAS, MICHELLE YEOH, LEE CHONG WEI 🇲🇾 MALAYSIANS have a great track record too in various industries. #BelieveinMalaysia #SupportMalaysianBrands #Patriotism #Believewecan #Innovation #Malaysia #SwimSchool #SwimCoach #WaterPhobiaSpecialist #Swimin12

The Power of Preparedness - Lessons from the Past **The Importance of Preparedness in Achieving Success** Imagine it's 1995, and I embarked on an unexpected journey into ballroom dancing. My mother, Mdm. Sim Joo Joo, and her dance partner, Mr. Chong Sheng Zhi, taught me the basics and instilled in me the importance of being prepared. Our meticulous preparation led us to win first place in all beginners' categories at the Kuantan Ballroom Open Championships in Malaysia. Our pioneers understood the value of preparedness. Dr. Goh Keng Swee, the architect of Singapore's economy, emphasized meticulous planning and preparation. His foresight and detailed economic plans transformed Singapore into a global financial hub. In our professional lives, being prepared is crucial. Whether it’s a big presentation or daily tasks, thorough preparation can make a significant difference. Reflect on your own experiences and share how being prepared has contributed to your success.

#kopitalk on Taking Action One of my reflections on this auspicious day is we must initiate to take actions. I used to overthink, and over deliberate. While it may not be bad, because my deliberation mainly focuses on risks mitigation. But overdoing it frequently led me into procrastination. I learned to balance risks mitigation and taking actions. I moved forward by taking actions, then navigating the risks as they came along. In that process, I realized most risks are just my own perception, then actual threats. As they unfold themselves, they are actually disguised opportunities, especially when you take them on by the horn. If I didn't take action a year ago, I would not be running a young training and consultancy firm today. Perhaps I would still be deliberating. Happy Malaysia Day! Happy Malaysia Day to our beloved nation.

What I've Learned from the Bowling Competition in Turkey... So, here's the deal: the organizers only gave us 10 minutes each to practice and get the hang of the lane, house ball, and shoes. Talk about pressure! I usually need more time to "warm up," and I could already see my future if I didn't get a proper warm-up. Well, guess what? My prediction came true. First game out, and I could barely score 105. I had to laugh at myself for that one. But hey, I've got that Malaysia Athlete Mindset — never give up. I switched to another house ball and managed to pull off a strike in the first frame, and in the last three frames, I got 8 (/), X, X, and 9. That brought my total score to 180, the highest among my team members. Not to mention, it was the same score I achieved during the selection rounds back in Malaysia. This story taught me something profound: sometimes life throws you into a dark tunnel. But fear not, because at the end of that tunnel, there's a guiding light waiting to lead you back on track. Have faith in yourself and your journey. Allow yourself to make mistakes, because from those mistakes, you can find your way back to where you need to be. So here I am, back in the dark tunnel, but this time, I've got LinkedIn as my torch to help me find my way out and get back on track. Hopefully, I'll see you all on the other side soon! Thanks to Mohd Firdaus Ruslan for the fantastic video! It's a great memory to cherish, especially since it shows us standing tall at rank number 4 out of 64 countries. #opentowork #connection #linkedin #tourism #airlines #hospitality

Overcoming Challenges with the Kampung Spirit ** Overcoming Challenges Through Teamwork and Support ** After nearly six and a half years of dancing, my dance partner had to leave Singapore due to work commitments. This left me feeling lost and without direction. However, life has a way of surprising us. Just two months later, I met a new dance partner, and together, we achieved great success. This experience reminds me of Mr. S. Rajaratnam, one of Singapore’s founding fathers, who faced numerous challenges in building a cohesive society. His belief in the kampung spirit and the power of teamwork helped overcome these obstacles, fostering unity and progress. In the corporate world, challenges are inevitable. By embracing the kampung spirit and supporting each other, we can overcome difficulties and achieve our goals. Share your stories of overcoming challenges through teamwork and support.
