Today, on #GivingTuesday, I am especially grateful to be part of the #BellXcel family. Working for a mission-driven organization is an incredibly fulfilling experience; I love knowing that the work I do every day helps us move closer to achieving our mission for all children to excel. Quality out-of-school time is crucial. Children involved in extracurricular activities and programs are 400 percent more likely to go to college. However, for every child enrolled in an after school program, there are three more who are still waiting to get in. There are nearly 25 million children in the United States who aren’t able to access out-of-school programing, an issue which disproportionately affects youth in low-income communities. BellXcel helps bridge that gap in three key ways. Our software platform Arly enables programs to scale effectively and utilize quality measurement tools to drive program improvement. Our consulting affiliate, the Sperling Center for Research and Innovation - SCRI, provides evidence-based, actionable guidance to schools and youth-serving organizations. And our newly launched impact initiative, Rise, focuses on expanding access to the communities that need it most. More on that coming soon! If you're anything like me, extracurricular activities are some of your fondest childhood memories. Science Olympiad, Inc. , debate team, and swim team at the Barrington YMCA all played a key role in shaping my future during my middle and high school years. Today, I ask you to take a few minutes to reflect on your own childhood and the programs or activities you participated in which had a lifelong impact. At a remote-first organization, any opportunity to come together in person is valuable. When those opportunities are infrequent, it becomes all the more important that any time together is time well-spent. Two weeks ago, the BellXcel team gathered in Boston for our biennial company-wide Convening. As the lead planner, I've been living and breathing the details of this event for the last few months. Now that I’ve made it to the other side (and taken a long weekend off to rest!) I’ve been reflecting on my immense gratitude for this organization and my role in it. Lauren Sanchez Gilbert, Ed.D. and the senior leadership team at BellXcel, Sperling Center for Research and Innovation - SCRI and Arly really walk the walk when it comes to creating an organizational culture that puts its people first. This has never been more evident than in our theme for this event: winter wellness. After all, we can’t be our best at work when we haven’t taken care of ourselves! In addition to the usual - team building, strategic discussions, and opportunities for connection - the vision for our 2024 Convening was a focus on exploring new avenues of wellness. It was SUCH an honor to be trusted with that vision and given the responsibility of bringing it to life. I’m one of the very lucky few that can honestly say that I love my job. Pouring my creative energy and project management skills into this event has been such a blast, and seeing it all come together was definitely one of my proudest moments in this role. More importantly though, our team’s energetic discussions reminded me of the REAL reason I love working at BellXcel. Our mission is at the heart of everything we do, and thousands of kids across the country have access to new opportunities and a brighter future because of our talented, passionate team. They show up every single day engaged and ready to make a difference, and our Convening was no exception. Do you own a vacation property, have season tickets for a New England sports team, or run a small business? Last Hope K9 Rescue is seeking in-kind donations for a live and silent auction. As many of you know, I am one of the Assistant Directors at LHK9, an all-breed, volunteer-run dog rescue based in Boston, MA. Our annual fundraising gala, Sips to Save Lives, is just around the corner! This event is our largest fundraiser of the year - last year we raised over $180K - and all of the money we raise goes towards saving more dogs in need. The auction portion of our event typically accounts for more than 25% of the money raised, so its crucial that we offer some awesome items!
