So here's your reminder that imposter syndrome is totally normal. Just remember, If you were selected for an interview, it's a clear sign that you are being taken seriously as a candidate. Ghosting candidates can harm your organization’s reputation!💯 In the same way, that hiring managers and recruiters talk and share their negative experiences with their social networks or organizations, candidates also share their negative experiences. You never know what external connection you burn bridges with as well. Therefore, keep it professional, regardless of moving forward with the next candidate. #beprofessional

Sometimes I will interview people and they will say things like, "I'm sorry, people tell me I talk too much. I feel like I am probably doing it right now." As recruiters, we have opinions. Lots and lots of opinions. We can't always know whether a hiring manager will be offended, annoyed or not hire someone because they "talk too much". However, while preparing the candidate, we can certainly share our feedback and suggest something like, "if you are worried about it or believe it might hurt your chances of landing this or any other role, let's work on it a bit." Part of our job when a person shows a lack of confidence in themselves is to help them overcome that fear or insecurity. Protect your candidate from themselves. #LookingToBeBetter

Ever aced the final interview but then...rejected?  You're not alone! Many times, not getting chosen after a great interview has more to do with the hiring process than your qualifications. Here are just a few "behind the scenes" reasons I've encountered: -Shifting Priorities: The company decides to change the role's location mid-process, leaving you in the dark. -Unclear Requirements: The team never defines their ideal candidate, leading to inconsistent interviewing. -"Just in Case" Hiring: They interview for a potential future opening, not a guaranteed one. -Funding Fumbles: Funding falls through, but you're left with a generic rejection email. -Internal Changes: The company changes course, making your desired role obsolete. The takeaway? A lot is happening behind the scenes that can unfortunately affect your candidacy with no fault of your own. Don't get discouraged! Part of the reason I created headcount365 is because i've seen way too many companies cancel a role with finalists, because it wasn't actually approved to hire. Some reasons why: 1) The manager thought they had a backfill and didn't 2) They spent the money on another hire or internal promotion and didnt realize they couldnt hire this role 3) They had savings from not hiring a previous role that finance took back and never told them 4) Another team used that budget and never told this hiring manager or recruiter There are so many reasons why a single source of truth helps--- but ensuring a good candidate experience should be at the top of every recruiting leader's list

When working with recruiters, I feel it’s important to give them genuine feedback. Years ago, I went on an interview for a job that sounded like a perfect fit for me. The recruiter was excited for me, and I was excited for myself. The interview was awful. Not only was the person interviewing me (who would have been my direct supervisor) condescending and abrupt, but the job they described to the recruiter didn’t actually exist. As in they were hiring for something else completely, but wanted the kind of candidates that would be brought in by the ad. I let the recruiter know the situation. After checking with the client the recruiter responded to me that I was just mistaken, that the interview was regarding “all the extra duties” she wanted me to take on. I thanked the recruiter and asked to be removed from consideration immediately. I didn’t blame the recruiter, who repeatedly got inaccurate information from the client. However, it certainly felt like a waste of energy and time. Sometimes the job hunt is exhausting, aggravating, and perplexing. But all we can do is do our best to be transparent, collaborative, and direct. I’m sure every recruiter I know could share hundreds of stories about miscommunications. On your journey to becoming a great recruiter, there will be periods where you hate what you are doing and feel dissatisfied with the actions you must undertake. You will experience fatigue and stress, which is why it's difficult. This difficulty is why many people won't make it; most will fall off. That's why it's valuable—the difficulty gives it value. It's the key component; if everyone had it, it wouldn't be valuable. If the path were easy, it would lead nowhere. It's supposed to be hard and terrible; you are supposed to feel the pain and still smile.

INTERVIEW HORROR STORY Recruiters and managers, stop blowing us off in very advanced stages of the recruitment process with the pathetic excuse of "you don't have enough experience/we continued with a candidate who had more experience" when we all know it's an absolute lie. We're not fools. After we've gone through all the stages and are moments away from signing a contract, we deserve a decent and respectful response, not some dismissive statement because you want to end the conversation quickly and run to your lunch break. I finished a recruitment process for a job I really wanted and wasn't accepted. The entire process was very kind and professional. We reached the very last stage and I was explicitly told we were about to sign a contract. I called the recruiting manager to check the status and she told me they decided not to proceed with me due to a lack of experience. I have experience!!! The issue of experience never came up in any conversation. The call lasted a minute and was very distant and unpleasant. I felt I was being brushed off rudely, which was opposite to the impression I had of them. Why leave me in this uncertainty and give me such a disgusting and frustrating feeling? I don't understand what's the problem in giving a respectful and normal response. I really don't understand why they backed out at the last minute, and if they would have explained, I would have ended the process more positively. Now I'm left with a great deal of resentment. Stop underestimating our intelligence. Stop seeing us as a burden you need to get rid of. Happy 💞 Wednesday Mi Gente! We are half way through the week! 🙌🏼 𝘾𝙚𝙡𝙚𝙗𝙧𝙖𝙩𝙚 𝙞𝙩! Last week, I had a rough week. 😢 𝘔𝘦𝘯𝘵𝘢𝘭𝘭𝘺 𝘥𝘳𝘢𝘪𝘯𝘦𝘥, 𝘭𝘰𝘸 𝘦𝘯𝘦𝘳𝘨𝘺 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘮𝘰𝘵𝘪𝘷𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯 but as a parent, there's rarely down time to reset and regroup. It was so bad that I ignored most text messages and that's simply not me. 🥴 Anyone who knows me and has worked with me can attest that even in the worst of times, my energy is almost always at 100! 😂 And then this week, it hits me...𝗜 𝗵𝗮𝘃𝗲𝗻'𝘁 𝗵𝗮𝗱 𝗮 𝗷𝗼𝗯 𝗶𝗻 𝗮 𝘆𝗲𝗮𝗿! 😱 It was 𝘴𝘶𝘣𝘤𝘰𝘯𝘴𝘤𝘪𝘰𝘶𝘴𝘭𝘺 on my mind. This by far has been the longest time not having a full time 'job' (𝘣𝘦𝘤𝘢𝘶𝘴𝘦 𝑝𝘢𝘳𝘦𝘯𝘵𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘪𝘴 𝘢 𝘧𝘶𝘭𝘭 𝘵𝘪𝘮𝘦 𝘫𝘰𝘣 𝘳𝘪𝘨𝘩𝘵😉). I embraced the unemployment and started actively getting back on the market in September and one of the most disappointing things I've experienced has been the '𝗷𝗼𝗯 𝗴𝗵𝗼𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴'. The Forbes article's too good not to share. As a recruiting leader, let's say I have 𝘩𝘪𝘨𝘩 𝘦𝘹𝑝𝘦𝘤𝘵𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯𝘴 on the #𝗰𝗮𝗻𝗱𝗶𝗱𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗲𝘅𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲. And now as a more seasoned leader on the market, the bar is 𝘦𝘷𝘦𝘯 𝘩𝘪𝘨𝘩𝘦𝘳. I, more than anyone, understand the dynamics of how many applicants come through and having to screen them. My 𝑝𝘦𝘵 𝑝𝘦𝘦𝘷𝘦 is getting to an actual phone conversation, being told about next steps, or even making it to an interview, with absolutely 𝗻𝗼 𝗳𝗼𝗹𝗹𝗼𝘄 𝘂𝗽. 🙈 To me, it's a matter of 𝘴𝘪𝘮𝑝𝘭𝘦 𝘤𝘰𝘶𝘳𝘵𝘦𝘴𝘺. If you took the time to get on a call with me, but especially even more if I 𝗱𝗼 land the interview - the least you can do is communicate whether I'm moving forward. Even a short email will do better than getting the 𝘥𝘦𝘤𝘭𝘪𝘯𝘦 𝘢𝘶𝘵𝘰 𝘥𝘪𝘴𝑝𝘰𝘴𝘪𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯 𝘄𝗲𝗲𝗸𝘀 𝗼𝗿 𝗠𝗢𝗡𝗧𝗛𝗦 𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗿.🤯 Candidates 𝙧𝙚𝙢𝙚𝙢𝙗𝙚𝙧 and our networks / circles of people 𝘸𝘪𝘭𝘭 𝘩𝘦𝘢𝘳 𝘢𝘣𝘰𝘶𝘵 𝘪𝘵. Don't jeopardize your reputation as a recruiter (or your company's) 𝙗𝙮 𝙜𝙝𝙤𝙨𝙩𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙘𝙖𝙣𝙙𝙞𝙙𝙖𝙩𝙚𝙨. 𝗗𝗼 𝗯𝗲𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗿. Like I tell me kids, 𝘪𝘧 𝘺𝘰𝘶 𝘥𝘰𝘯'𝘵 𝘸𝘢𝘯𝘵 𝘪𝘵 𝘥𝘰𝘯𝘦 𝘵𝘰 𝘺𝘰𝘶, 𝘥𝘰𝘯'𝘵 𝘥𝘰 𝘪𝘵 𝘰𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘳𝘴.💝 For those of us navigating these scary times, 𝘬𝘦𝘦𝑝 𝘺𝘰𝘶𝘳 𝘩𝘦𝘢𝘥 𝘩𝘦𝘭𝘥 𝘩𝘪𝘨𝘩 and remember 𝗬𝗢𝗨 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗽𝗿𝗶𝘇𝗲. 🎁 ...and a 𝗦𝗣𝗘𝗖𝗜𝗔𝗟 𝗦𝗛𝗢𝗨𝗧 𝗢𝗨𝗧 to the #recruiters out here who 𝙖𝙧𝙚 diligent with their candidates. I've had some 𝘨𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘵 𝘰𝘯𝘦𝘴 in the last few months! And I've given them my feedback on 𝘩𝘰𝘸 𝘸𝘦𝘭𝘭 𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘺 𝘢𝘳𝘦 𝘥𝘰𝘪𝘯𝘨! They, too, are 𝘰𝘷𝘦𝘳𝘸𝘩𝘦𝘭𝘮𝘦𝘥. 𝙇𝙚𝙩'𝙨 𝙖𝙡𝙡 𝙨𝙝𝙤𝙬 𝙤𝙣𝙚 𝙖𝙣𝙤𝙩𝙝𝙚𝙧 𝙨𝙤𝙢𝙚 𝙜𝙧𝙖𝙘𝙚! ❤️🩹 Now... 𝘴𝘩𝘢𝘳𝘦 𝘴𝘰𝘮𝘦 𝗹𝗼𝘃𝗲, 𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗼𝘂𝗿𝗮𝗴𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁, and any 𝘭𝘢𝘴𝘵 𝘮𝘪𝘯𝘶𝘵𝘦 𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝘃𝗶𝗲𝘄 𝘁𝗶𝗽𝘀 as I have some 𝘪𝘯-𝑝𝘦𝘳𝘴𝘰𝘯 𝘪𝘯𝘵𝘦𝘳𝘷𝘪𝘦𝘸𝘴 𝘵𝘰𝘥𝘢𝘺 that I'm 𝘀𝗼 𝗲𝘅𝗰𝗶𝘁𝗲𝗱 about! 🙏🏼 I thrive in face-to-face connections over virtual, for sure.
