I actually hate national day posts Hear me out 🫣 Often they are SO forced & just absolutely lazy. Can’t be bothered doing any research into what your audience is searching for right now? Don’t worry, I got you, it’s national walking day today* ✨ Don’t get me wrong, I’ve been a victim of utilising these days far too much in the past. The senior team don’t always understand & want you to be everywhere all the time, doing everything. When in reality if the national day doesn’t relate to your brand at all - it’s just going to fall a bit flat with your audience. Saying this, April Fools Day is one of my favourites as mentioned in one of my last posts. Our audiences might know everything is fake (which I think is part of the fun) but it’s an exciting time for brands to partner with other brands completely out of their space & to start a conversation with their audience. I decided to post a 6 part TikTok series about my favourite April Fools Day 2024 campaigns (let’s be honest most of them weren’t even my favourite) & this series gained over 183k+ views… with my highest post reaching 88k+ 👏 I even got a few cheeky comments from some of the brands I mentioned, social admins I see you working overtime on the bank holiday 🤭 Moral of the story, create content that makes sense for your brand & your audience. Making sure that it is also something that people are searching for will drive even more results. If using a national day will help with this, then go for it. But 9/10 it probably won’t. *if your brand is centred about being active / walking, no doubt you’d be utilising this today 👀

But more than that, it’s the cash they pay for your time to not be doing your job. 🌱 The development days 🌍 The volunteering days 🍺 The pub trips (tab preferred) 🍌 The time it takes to eat that banana from the office fruit bowl And let’s hear it for the beauty spiralling the government into full dusty dragon… 🥁 The 4-day working week. 80% hours, 100% pay. That’s a benefit. Working all the hours you’re paid to work is not a benefit. Working part time is an employment contract. Before you post something on your company page just ask this question.. - Will people share this post inside their office groups? - Will this post create a conversation among colleagues? - Are we giving anything super useful that might help his work? Instead of posting a 'Happy Independence Day' on your company page just make some content that talks about.. ✅ People taking sick leave on Thursday' to enjoy the long weekend ✅ HRs breaking their heads to come up with events on that day ✅ JUST ANNOUNCE A HOLIDAY ON THURSDAY & TAKE THEM ALL TO DEADPOOL MOVIE! 😂

And that's why we need more Gen-Z (and not only) changing how we think about jobs and stop business owners abusing (that's the word) thinking they have control (or even worse they're generous in giving them a job) because employees need money. I experienced similar things to this viral TikTok myself in the early stages of my career in Italy: as I became a business owner down the line, I understood what it means to be a Director (or generally a business owner) and how if there's a problem it's your responsibility, not your employees, to sort things out. Sure, in a desperate situation, you might kindly ask and offer a proper reward, but knowing you're asking for a FAVOUR, and a no is no...your employees owe you nothing besides what you pay them to do. Fridays are for us. Every week we put some time aside to step away from the office, grab a bite to eat or go for a walk. It give us time to reflect, focus on the business and ourselves. It's a time to chat, to check in, discuss what's working and what isn't and make sure we're heading in the right direction. Fridays are important. #catchup #timeout #reflect

I'm not part of the 5am club. 🥱 If I was THAT early-to-bed and early-to-rise, I'd never have a social life, or get to spend any time with my night owl husband. But I HAVE figured out a work schedule that is optimized for me. A couple years ago, I trialed a split schedule for myself and I've kept coming back to it again and again - because it works really well. Staring at your computer for 6-8 hours uninterrupted sometimes feels daunting. Plus, Parkinson's Law kicks in and the work expands to fill the time you have to do it in. So I break the workday into two smaller chunks. For example, I will work from 9:30 am – 12:30 pm, then take an extended lunch break. During that time I will totally switch off from work and go for a walk, do a workout or run some errands. Then do another focused session from 3:30 pm – 6:30 pm, and call it a day. I find that working in “bursts” during short windows of time helps me stay focused and productive. Plus, I get a chance to enjoy the afternoon, without feeling like I've spent the entire day working. In the wintertime this is especially important, because the sun sets so early! With a typical 9-5 schedule, I wouldn't get much chance to be outside during the daylight hours.
