One of the most complex operations on board is the personnel transfer using the Billy Pugh “basket”. It involves constant communication between the crane operator, both vessel crew, and the person using it. Focused approach and attention to details is a must. #seafaring #personneltransfer

Such Transfers using a Billy Pugh Should be stopped altogether, you want to mitigate hazards and not create them

Did hundreds of these transfers in my time as crane operator without incident both lifting and travelling on the basket but never without wearing a life jacket !!! People using it just need to know what they are doing. Its not a big deal.

Yeah somewhat agree because it carries people and how many lives will be at risk in this type of lifting operation. It is far different when it comes to lifting personnel onshore where using a man cage whether it is open or closed man cage still more secure compared to the way lifting personnel offshore is too risky.

Stringent adherence to OSHA, and LOLER requirements are critical to successful lifting operations. The lifting team must be conversant with all site safety procedures and practices.

It failed a little, when landing it didn't keep the load aligned even though we could see the direction in which the guide cable was being pulled
