CO2 storage is one technique, not the only one, to fight the current climate crisis. However, it is a delicate task that requires high level scientific research to comprehend the potential behaviour of the gas in a subsurface porous media. Here is a nice piece of research:

My paper describing large-eddy simulation of realistic, nonstationary atmospheric conditions during a wind turbine wake-steering experiment is finally out! I used a microscale data assimilation technique to replicate local measurements in the flow simulation. This work highlights many of the site- and case-specific challenges that may be encountered when trying marry observation and simulation. https://lnkd.in/g4W4_H-D

Excited to share my first research article on solar wind parameters during significant geomagnetic storms! This study investigates the solar wind parameters during the geomagnetic storms of 26th August 2018 and 28th September 2017, highlighting the variations in solar wind speed, density, and magnetic field components. TRACER originated as a proposal from Michael Jensen, a meteorologist from Brookhaven National Laboratory, to deploy an ARM Mobile Facility to the Houston, Texas, region for the study of deep convective clouds—the kind that pack⚡and pour 🌧️. Prendergast at University of Nottingham - This paper proposes a novel data-driven framework for scour detection around offshore wind turbines (OWTs), where damage features are derived from wind and wave-induced acceleration signals collected along the tower - A numerical model of the NREL 5 MW wind turbine, which considers aerodynamic and hydrodynamic loading with soil-structure interaction (SSI) and servodynamics, is developed - A data segmentation process is initially performed on the collected data, which is followed by a feature selection scheme based on the analysis-of-variance (ANOVA) algorithm, to eliminate irrelevant characteristics from the time domain feature set of responses - In the real-time classification, a prediction of the scour depth affecting the structure is performed using a new dataset simulated from unseen load cases and scour conditions of the OWT - The results show that the model trained in the offline stage can predict the scour depth in the real-time monitoring stage with performance measures over approximately 94% Paper available: https://lnkd.in/eQhmQJbk #OffshoreWindTurbines #Monopile #Scour #FeatureExtraction

Today in Tech History- September 2nd, 1859 – A unique combination of solar events including a magnetic explosion severely affected the young telegraph network in North America and Europe. Wires shorted out, fires started and some machines reportedly worked even when disconnected from batteries. This was a result of the Carrington Event, the most intense geomagnetic storm in recorded history, peaking on September 2nd, 1859 during solar cycle 10. It created strong auroral displays that were reported globally. It was observed and recorded independently by British astronomers Richard Carrington and Richard Hodgson—the first records of a solar flare EVER. A geomagnetic storm of this magnitude occurring today has the potential to cause widespread electrical disruptions, blackouts and damage due to extended cuts of the electrical power grid.
