I received the student evaluation for my third semester of teaching in UP Law. Not bad for a subject which I taugh for the first time!
For this semester, I was assigned to teach Legal Bibliography to three blocks. As a non-bar examination and first year, first semester subject, I knew the challenge that it entails. That is why my guiding principle was not to compete with the "major" subjects while impressing upon my students the importance of soft skills, especially during this precious period of adjustment.
While I have to improve on a number of things, the comments below made me realize that I'm a student closer to realizing my teaching philosophy:
- "Prof. Sucgang was very organized and clear with his teaching this semester. I also appreciated his flexibility and his efforts to help us understand the subject matter easier despite the course being generally comprehensive."
- "more creative way of teaching and preparing the syllabus, backed by science"
- "Prof. Sucgang is very academically inclined in the sense that he understands the learning process, and endeavoured to teach in a new way that is beneficial to everyone."
- "sir's class was okay, he helped a lot in adjusting to law school"
- "Relates a lot of concepts to contemporary events"
My goal has always been to ensure not only the imparting of the knowledge of the law and the skill of legal analysis, but also to foster a more welcoming learning environment. Mind you, these two are not polar opposites. They can co-exist.
Thank you, dear students! Be rest assured that your feedback are duly considered. At salamat muli sa tiwala, UP!
Let's transform the nation and the legal profession one law student at a time.
