Here is my latest column in the Vail Daily. "These 'non-sanctuary' resolutions are the definition of performative politics at its worst. While offering no tangible solutions or improvements to anyone’s lives, they direct blame toward the immigrant and Latino communities, even in the absence of guilt. Some, like Garfield County, go a step farther by encouraging the local Sheriff’s Department to proactively work with federal Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), even when immigrants have not been charged with a crime."

Here is my most recent op-ed on the superintendent search in the Roaring Fork School District. Our students deserve the most qualified leader. Period. "I hope the board gets it right this time. Because if they don’t, we will continue this legacy of experimenting at the expense of Latino students who continue to be left behind due to the lack of political courage by the school board and lack of expertise by administrators to execute the bold, transformative work that is required to address the district’s chronic under-achievement problems. It cannot take centuries — or even decades — to eliminate the gap, which is what will happen if we continue at this pace of progress, celebrating a percentage point or two of growth."

Here is a snippet from that column that underscores the importance of our work together: “Latinos make up more than 30% of Eagle County residents, and a comparable percentage of the workforce that the surrounding resort economy depends upon, yet we still struggle to convey meaningful influence. While we may be 30% of the local community, we’re certainly not 30% of the town councils, school boards, county commissioners, or in any other positions of influence.
