This #EarthDay, I'm proud of the efforts being made across AstraZeneca towards building a healthier future for people, society and the planet.    In BioPharmaceuticals we’re committed to reducing the environmental burden of care by driving improvements in patient outcomes as well as reducing the carbon footprint of our medicines.    Earlier detection of chronic diseases can help mitigate the burdens brought about by these illnesses. One example of how we are addressing this is through our ACT on CKD programme which aims to diagnose chronic kidney disease (CKD) in patients earlier to help reduce progression of CKD to kidney failure by 20% by 2025, ultimately reducing the carbon emissions and fresh water needed for haemodialysis and other intensive treatment.   And as part of our commitment to decarbonise respiratory care, we’re working to reduce the carbon footprint of our inhaled respiratory medicines by transitioning to next-generation propellants with near-zero global warming potential. "𝗠𝘆 𝘀𝗼𝗻 𝗕𝗲𝗻 is a normal boy with dreams and goals, 𝗷𝘂𝘀𝘁 𝗹𝗶𝗸𝗲 𝗬𝗼𝘂 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗺𝗲. His admirably positive mindset and his passion for art are what inspire me to drive for change in orphan drug development. Ben was born with Alström syndrome, an ultra-rare disease with 𝗻𝗼 𝘁𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀 available. Only 1,200 people globally have been diagnosed with it. Watching my son 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗴𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗹𝘆 lose his eyesight and hearing is the most difficult thing I had to face in my entire life. Especially because there’s no doctor in the world who can do anything about it. We want to solve challenges in the World of rare diseases. Only talking is 𝘁𝗼𝗼 𝘄𝗲𝗮𝗸. Acting would be better. It’s all there - knowledge, technology, and money. The only limit is 𝗽𝗿𝗶𝗼𝗿𝗶𝘁𝘆. Let’s drive for change together!" Glad to have attended the 2024 NB Stroke Conference! 🧠🚑 Heart & Stroke NB | Coeur + AVC N.-B. Stroke management revolve around time and about 95% of stroke happens to occur outside hospital settings therefore immediate recognition is crucial. This has been easier using the FAST nemonic: F= Face drooping A= Arm weakness S= Speech difficulty T= Time to call 911 which should be FAST as well! Just a brief insight about the latest guidelines update regarding ischemic stroke management (2022): 🧠Initial CT and non invasive vascular imaging CTA or MRA should be obtained as soon as possible. 🧠 Initial blood work taken during time of resuscitation should include : RBG , CBC, RFT , Bleeding profile and ESR or CRP incase Gaint Cell Arterities is suspected ( pt presented with loss of vision or headache). 🧠All eligible patient with disabling stroke presenting within 4.5 hours( up to 6 hours in selected patients) from symptoms onset or last known well time should receive iv thrombolysis with either Alteplase (0.9 mg/kg with 10% given as bolus dose and 90% over the next 60 min) or the newest agent Tenecteplase (0.25mg/kg administered as one dose). 🧠All eligible patient presenting beyond 6 hours up to 24 hours should be assessed for endovascular thrombectomy (EVT). ⛔ REMEMBER TO ALWAYS BE IN A HURRY!!⛔🦸 Time is brain. Treatment benefits from revascularization decrease overtime and delay in stroke diagnosis and treatment can lead to the worst outcome. The ideal door-to-needle time is <60 min.
