A timely and detailed report that demonstrates the value of bringing multiple stakeholders across disciplines to deep dive into a 'gnarly' challenge. However, this is also an opportunity to rediscover the roots of public health engineering, leveraging developments across engineering, data science, biological sciences, policy and social sciences to empower the thinkers and doers to ensure that our water (eco)systems are resilient, safe and sustainable.
Yesterday, I had the honour of being part of the panel (with Professor Sir Chris Whitty, David Butler FREng and Barbara Evans) to present the launch of the Royal Academy of Engineering report - "Testing the waters - Priorities for mitigating health risks from wastewater pollution". Over the last year, we have been working with more than 100 engineers, wastewater experts, the water industry, campaign organisations and policymakers. The report focuses on the role of wastewater infrastructure in introducing primarily human faecal organisms into open water through storm overflows and treated effluent discharge. The report calls for collective action by industry, government, and public bodies to bolster a robust and efficient wastewater system and recommends 15 actions.

The ideal oxidation ditch doesn't use rotors, discs or diffusers - it uses the Newterra Triton. Newterra's Tri-Oval system enhances the oxidation ditch with efficient aerators, optimizing oxygen transfer and nutrient removal while minimizing energy consumption and operational costs. This system is flexible in handling varying influent loads and is able to adapt to changing conditions, making it suitable for diverse applications ranging from municipal wastewater treatment to industrial effluent treatment. Read this case study on how a municipality in Tennessee modernized their oxidation ditch, ensuring ongoing energy efficiency and environmental stewardship: https://hubs.la/Q02tZmvn0 Learn more: https://hubs.la/Q02tZgV30
