"The camera is an instrument that teaches people how to see without a camera." — Dorothea Lange Learning photography at a young age definitely taught me how to visualize. But how can someone start learning right now? 1. Practice Observation: Put intentional effort into observing your surroundings. Pay attention to details, colors, shapes, and textures. 2. Box it Up: Make a shape like a camera's viewfinder with your hands and use it to limit your focus to one area that interests you. 3. Share the Scene: Describe the scene you observed to someone else. The more vivid your description, the better you've visualized it. Why does it matter? By developing your visualization skills, you can become a more effective storyteller, communicator, and problem-solver. #Photography #Observation #Vision

Geometric shapes have the power to convey complex narratives through their arrangement and structure. By manipulating forms to create contrast and depth, we can capture the essence of human emotion in a visual language. In this way, shapes can be seen as potent storytellers, capable of weaving tales that speak to the human experience. #photography #capturedmoments #visualart

ICM tips: How to snap zoom bursts (From my "Blurred Musings" blog) Don’t forget about your zoom when experimenting with ICM photography. Sliding it in or out during a long exposure can add a whole new dimension to your images. Light will emanate from a central point, creating a 3D effect. The technique, known as a zoom burst, is pretty straight forward, but the effect can go awry rather easily. Here are some tips to get a good photo: https://lnkd.in/g3fdC24n

Check out my attempt to capture motion blur – it didn't quite go as planned! ➤ What is Motion Blur? ➤ Motion blur happens when a moving object is captured by a camera with a slow shutter speed, causing the object to appear blurred in the direction of its movement. ↪ Shutter Speed: The amount of time the camera’s shutter is open. A slower shutter speed means the shutter is open longer, which allows more movement to be captured, creating blur. {Blur∝Speed of the Subject (V)/ Shutter Speed (S)} ➜ The blur increases with the speed of the subject and decreases with a faster shutter speed. ↪ Angular Velocity: The rate at which an object rotates or moves along a circular path. ➜ Higher angular velocity means more blur. Motion blur in photography is a beautiful blend of art and simple math. By understanding these basics, you can create stunning images that capture the essence of motion and time. #Photography #MotionBlur #SimpleMath #ShutterSpeed #Exposure #PhotographyTips #CreativePhotography #AngularVelocity #ArtAndScience

I'm excited about this image for a couple reasons. I was playing around with processing as I often enjoy doing, and stumbled upon a method to get a totally believable "infrared" photography look- of course not exactly the same as the real thing (and I really do love the real thing and have an IR filter), but the real thing does come with a lot of challenges, and with the right image, this process can give nearly identical results, good enough even for me who has done the real deal. So then, I kept playing more and was able to use that infrared effect to get these bright-moonlight-night kind of images, which I know are maybe a little bright for an "accurate night" look, but are so cool and evocative to me. It reminds me a little of the night time effect achieved with infrared on the film "Nope". Anyways, it does depend on the photo used, but it worked really well on this image I took this spring of my favourite bridge (on Kauai), even though this image was initially in my reject pile. I'm also excited because I love salvaging otherwise deletable images! . #photoshop #photoprocessing #nightlook #fakeinfrared #bridge #bridgephotography #scenic #bridgeview #nikonz7ii #hawaii #kauai #thegardenisland #landscapephotography #landscape #landscapephotographer #nature #naturephotography #fineartphotography #lifeisart #asf_artists

Image Masking: Image masking is a sophisticated technique used to isolate specific parts of an image while leaving the rest untouched. Imagine creating an invisible layer over your image that selectively reveals or conceals certain areas. This is essentially what image masking does. This versatile technique is widely used in photo editing for tasks like: Background removal: Isolating the subject to replace or change the background. Transparency creation: Making parts of an image see-through for overlay effects. Special effects: applying effects selectively to specific areas of an image. Whether you're a professional photographer or a hobbyist, image masking is a powerful tool for achieving professional-looking results. Want to learn more? Tip #2 📸 Exposing the Magic: Mastering the Art of Exposure! 🌞✨ In the symphony of photography, exposure conducts the melody, and mastering it is your ticket to visual brilliance. Dive into the intricacies of the exposure triangle—aperture, shutter speed, and ISO. Experiment with wide apertures for dreamy backgrounds and narrow ones for sharp focus. Tame motion with shutter speed mastery and balance light sensitivity with ISO insights. Consider your camera's metering modes, embrace bracketing for tricky situations, and decode your exposure's report card through the histogram. Make friends with the golden hour for a natural, warm glow that elevates your shots.
