Mastering Screen Sharing: A Simple Tip for Seamless Training🧾 I love that we can now be #connected to others via Teams, Zoom, etc., but sometimes sharing screens can lead to confusion. Often, when listening to instructors, if they say "click on 'x'," I find myself scrambling to find where "x" is on my screen. Meanwhile, the instructor is already two or three steps ahead of me. A simple but very #impactful tool that I have found is included in the mouse properties section of your computer settings. Under the pointer options section, I always click on the "show location of pointer when I press the CTRL key" option. That way, when I am sharing my screen and say "click on 'x'," three circles appear by my pointer as a visual aid for others seeing my screen. (A screen capture of these settings is featured below). Reflection: we used to run a lot of live in-person workshops, usually involving copious post-it notes (other brands available). When we started running increasing numbers of online workshops and started to use remote workshopping whiteboard tools online (e.g., Miro) we used to encourage everyone to think of it as if they were in a room with lots of post-it notes and chart paper. Today we ran an in-person workshop, and found ourselves encouraging people to use the materials as if they were an online whiteboard! How times, and our behavioural comfort zones, change! We even missed the ability to click on a virtual post-it note and change its colour to help synthesise input into themes.
