Esparza Family & School of Arts & Culture joint statement: The seemingly sudden death of San Jose Visionary, Chris Esparza, came as a shock to many who knew him through his decades of service in the downtown community. After struggling to manage diabetes for most of his adult life, Chris had privately struggled with significantly deteriorating health since 2022. On August 4, 2024, Chris died in his home from complications due to renal failure. Services will be held at Five Wounds Portuguese National Parish on Monday, August 19th, 2024, at 3:00 pm, followed by a celebration at the Mexican Heritage Plaza, at 5:00 pm. Donations in Chris Esparza’s name can be made to the School of Arts & Culture (https://lnkd.in/gUsaUXET) to support his vision to establish a cultural district in East San Jose, La Avenida; or to MACLA/Movimiento de Arte y Cultura Latino Americana (https://lnkd.in/gkd5TQhg).
