🌊✨ At the 4th International Congress on Biorefineries and Renewable Energies Supported by ICT - BERSTIC 2024. Prof. Dr. Alberto Coz from Universidad de Cantabria, shared groundbreaking insights into the sustainable valorisation of fishery residues titled “Do it yourself! A guide to home-madebiodiesel and animal feed”   Key points from the talk: • Artisanal fishing in Colombia's Caribbean coast is crucial for the economic and social well-being of many families, despite a decline in productivity. 🌊 • Fishery residues can be sustainably repurposed into valuable products such as animal feed, cosmetics, bioactive pharmaceutical ingredients, and fertilisers, thereby reducing environmental risks and the need for mineral extraction. 🐠 🐟  • Dr. Coz highlighted an innovative project aimed at producing biodiesel from fishery residues and macroalgae, funded by the Autonomous Community of Cantabria and European funds. This project not only seeks to enhance the sustainability of the fishing fleet and port services but also to reduce carbon footprint by utilising biodiesel in fishing boat engines. 💪🏽🌿 🔍 Want to learn more about the event? Under the auspice of the Belgian Presidency, Wagralim, the Agri-Food Innovation Cluster of Wallonia is organising a one day event on 11th April. During this day, we will have the opportunity to listen to several high-level keynote presentations from European Commission, the Wallonia government and the regional innovation initiative strategies. 🌍🌿 We are approaching our big event as part of the European Green Week! 🌱✨ On June 18th, from 10:00 CEST, join us at the conference "New Toxic-Free Agriculture", organized by the LIFE NextFumigreen project. This event, which will be held at the Centro Tecnológico Tecnova in Almeria and will be streamed online, will explore the benefits of natural biopesticides and their positive impact on the environment and health. We will have the participation of representatives of the European Commission, the European Parliament and the Spanish Ministry of Economic Affairs and Digital Transformation, who will share their vision on the challenges and opportunities in sustainable agriculture. 🌿🇪🇺 🙌 This LIFE Programme, led by FUMI-HOGAR, in collaboration with B&B ASESORES, Centro Tecnológico Tecnova, Comercial Química Massó , BrioAgro España and FINNOVA FOUNDATION (EU), is 60% co-financed by the LIFE Programme of the European Union. It lasts four and a half years and aims to improve food security and biodiversity. This Friday, April 19, Stefano Pisciotta, Innovo’s Head of Agribusiness, will be attending the General Assembly of AIAS - Associazione Italiana Agrivoltaico Sostenibile, the Italian Association for Sustainable Agrivoltaics. This will be a valuable opportunity to discuss the latest technological, regulatory, and social developments in agrivoltaics with the main players in the sector. In the morning, AIAS will host an open session to explore the tailored solutions that agrivoltaics offers to support farming communities in different social and political contexts. Indeed, agrivoltaics is, by definition, a mediating approach that brings together the need for sustainable production of energy and food on the same land. This land is not abstract, but part of the landscape, an experience of communities living in a specific territory, with specific economies and relationships. Biobased industries and alternatives to fossil-based solutions are a developing fast and strongly. At the Biomodel4Regions Horizon Europe we are looking at pilot regions and best governance structures to support these ecosystems. Last week, I attended the consortium meeting to discuss progress and participated in Western Macedonia's workshop organized by CluBE-Cluster of Bioeconomy and Environment of Western Macedonia, addressing challenges and outlining next steps. 🌾 Organics Europe Youth Event 2024 🚜 👩🌾 From July 8 to 9, the second edition of the Organic Europe Youth Event (OEYE) will take place in Bari, Italy, hosted by CIHEAM Bari and organised by IFOAM Organics Europe. An inspiring event aiming to empower the future of the organic community by bringing together young individuals from different fields such as farmers, researchers, certifiers, and activists, all passionate about organic and sustainable agriculture. 🌱 Marco Paravicini, an Italian biodynamic farmer, Board member of Demeter Italia and vice-president of FederBio, presented the #biodynamic approach among the different #sustainable food systems with actors from the #organic, #regenerative, and #agroecological movement. An interesting start to the discussions of the OEYE followed by other important topics, such as the question of access to land and the development of local food policies. 🌍 The keynote speech, entitled ‘From Earth Democracy to Rights of Nature’, will be given by Dr. Vandana Shiva, a worldwide recognized environmental thinker, activist, feminist, philosopher of science, and science policy advocate. She will share her experience with ecological activism in the context of the organic movement. I'm thrilled to announce the approval of AGRIHEALTH project founded by Interreg Italia Svizzera. AGRIHEALTH project aims to valorize waste from mountain agricultural, agri-food crops, mother liquors and weeds using innovative extraction techniques and green solvents to obtain high-value bioactive molecules. These molecules could be used to formulate new products such as botanicals, nutraceuticals, and cosmeceuticals. The initiative, led by Institut Agricole Régional in partnership with Linnea SA Università degli Studi del Piemonte Orientale and Sferalp SA, aligns fully with the #United Nations' 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, eliminating the costs of waste disposal and transforming them into a valuable resource for companies and the cooperation territory. Operation co-founded by the #EuropeanUnion, the #EuropeanRegionalDevelopmentFund, the #ItalianState, the #WorkingCapitalFund, the #SwissConfederation and the #cantons under the #InterregVI-ACooperationProgramme between Italy and Switzerland
