Thoughts: Why is it so hard these days to land a good position with an excellent team in the oil and gas industry? This is for all personnel with experience. It should be easy, but it's not. They overlook you're experience and go with personnel who have never been in the industry. But if I look at a different industry to go into, they tell me that I have never worked in this field before, so here comes the rejection for the position! So please explain. A Letter to Potential Employer! All the details of our work experience/s are written and stated in our Resume. So, kindly refrain asking a question or stating such as "Ah! So you don't have experience in Oil & Gas/etc.?". Yes we do not have an Oil & Gas/etc. experience since our previous companies have no project/work in such field. But, it doesn't mean that we are not capable of doing our job well. Because we will not reached this years of experience by doing nothing in our previous organizations. We worked for a longer period of time with our previous employers for a good reasons. Otherwise, they will not allow us to stay if we are not competent to do our job. That is the evidence. So, If you will not give us a chance to work in different industry such as Oil & Gas/etc., we will never have it in our entire career. Always remember, no one is born working in such direct field. It is just so frustrating to be judged! But what I can say is, you missed the chance of having an employee that is a potential asset of the company. 😉

Good luck Leah, Mine is moving all my working documents into the shared drive for my team. My desktop looks like a Lite-Brite with all the holes filled in randomly. 💻 😅 What's your job that you put off? What's your solution? I'm a slow learner and after 10 years I'm convinced that habit wins every time. It's a little like exercise. 🏋♀️ If I'm honest with myself I know the things I can do that will help me feel 3️⃣ things: 1️⃣ Can I speak positively with everyone about what I did at work today? 2️⃣ Do I fully understand what I can do that matters to me and my team and my clients? 3️⃣ Do I feel supported to make good decisions and that the people I work with are available to help? So with this job if I: 1️⃣ Get all my quotes, meeting notes, and follow up done and shared I can likely be happy with that especially if, 2️⃣ It is useful to the rest of my team and provides insight on what is working and how it helps us meet our goals and even more so if, 3️⃣ The team also feels engaged and included and is eager and kind with support. The best examples are usually the most useful and inspiring. So putting myself in someone else's shoes helps me create the routine to approach those tasks like exercise. We're creatures of habit and sooner or later that good feeling of "I did it" becomes more appealing than the "I don't want to" and we find we can hardly avoid it. Sounds simple but isn't always easy, which is why you hear over and over and over, "Do the hard jobs first". You can pick them out because they require a little bit more courage and effort than the rest. The litmus test for me is whether I feel it in the head or the heart. The heart always says what the brain will avoid. Check what's behind your distractions if you want to know where to start. So I should get on it. I have some quotes to do and some notes to log. So...ummm...Leah do you need help with those grain bins?
Everyone has that one job they put off for as long as possible. For me, its cleaning out the grain bins (well that and cold calls, but that’s anothet story). Every year I tell myself I’m going to deal with this sooner so I’m not in a rush. But here we are, T-minus 2 days from combining and I’m in a rush to get the bins blown out. I provided myself with many excuses to not get the job done, like it was too hot, or the garden needed weeding or I needed to do PayScore.ca stuff. But we end up in the same place….the dirty, gross, disgusting job needs to get done while under pressure (and I am not a good pressure player) So, my advice, don’t put off the dirty job. Get it done sooner rather than later. P.S. PayScore.ca won’t help you get a dirty job done, but it will help you make sure you get paid for the dirty jobs you perform in the oil & gas industry.

USA Oil and Gas Job Figures Jump ⬇ There were 385,662 direct U.S. upstream sector jobs in 2023, a net increase of 23,709 jobs compared to 2022, the report noted. It also highlighted that the direct, indirect, and induced oil and gas jobs total for the nation was 24.14 million last year. The report revealed that the largest sector by employment in the U.S. oil and gas industry was “Gasoline Stations with Convenience Stores”, with 882,656 workers in 2023, followed by “Support Activities for Oil and Gas Operations”, with 221,456 workers, “Oil and Gas Pipeline and Related Structures Construction”, with 134,339 workers, and “Natural Gas Distribution”, with 114,017 workers. When do you need two resumes to hit an Oil & Gas job target? When you have technical AND management goals. For instance, a completions engineer might want to target high-level technical engineering roles as an advisor, SME or consultant. At the same time, they might also want to break into a management role where they need to highlight their skills in collaboration, supervision, and/or departmental direction. Sometimes you want to be more in the weeds and other times you’ll want to be more high level. The tricky thing is that if you try to walk the line between both with one resume, you may come across as a 50% fit for both types of roles. Have you run into this before?
