A Decade of Women Transformation Witnessed Celebrating Women’s Progress in Saudi Arabia As we celebrate Saudi National Day, I’m reflecting on the immense progress Saudi women have made, especially in the entrepreneurial space. Having been in the Kingdom for over 10 years, I’ve witnessed this transformation firsthand. When I first arrived in 2009, women couldn’t drive, and the landscape was very different. By the time I returned in 2017 for my PhD, everything had started to change rapidly. Not only did I become one of the first women to drive in the Kingdom, but I also became one of the first female expats to establish a business here. Saudi women are leading the way in startups and entrepreneurship, driving change across various sectors. But there’s still work to be done, especially when it comes to funding for female entrepreneurs. Join me in celebrating the strides we've made and the future ahead. My friend went to a big Saudi exhibition in Riyadh recently and here is what happened: The issue: 😱 Westerners in the Middle East often feel awkward. It is especially evident in social interactions. He observed: 😳 Women asking if it’s okay to shake hands with Saudi men. 😳 Men looking startled when approached by Saudi women. He said it is embarrassing to watch. This is why cultural understanding is crucial. You may not think you need it. But it is so evident most people do. So companies have a responsibility and duty of care to prepare their team. Because it matters. And how can you make the impact in business when you feel out of place? Exactly. It is time to start addressing these concerns and support your team: ❌ No more awkward moments. ✅ Just confidence and respect. And you know what will happen? Confident teams bring better results.
