Mechanic #1 "Why does the CSA Standard Z150 require a boom teardown inspection? It all looks good to me when telescoped out." Inspector "The teardown is to see what's inside, things we can't see when telescoped or from inspection ports." After doing inspection for over 30 years, it is unusual to find cracks during a boom teardown inspection. This does not mean that the teardown is not productive. Damaged hydraulic hoses, leaking telescoping cylinders, worn or missing wear pads, internal mechanical damage, sheared bolts are some of the findings. Here is mechanical damage due to rubbing that was not visible externally. Action can now be taken before this groove is cut too deep.

Sometimes work gets dirty, but that's part of the job as an industrial mechanic. Whether it's troubleshooting equipment, handling heavy machinery, or getting covered in grease, these moments remind me of the value of hard work and problem-solving. It's not always glamorous, but it's rewarding knowing that every repair and adjustment keeps operations running smoothly. Proud to get my hands dirty to keep things moving! #industrialmechanic #winnipeg #downtime #millwright #industrialexpert

What Is A Crane? An example of a machine used to move materials, equipment, etc. is a crane. It is made of sheaves, wire ropes or chains, and a hoist rope. It can be used to lift and lower objects as well as move them horizontally. A crane is in general used to lift big objects. Also, it is used to move objects a short distance between locations. #liftingequipment #liftingshifting #liftingengineer #crane #safety #mechanicalengineer

The actual operation of a crane isn't particularly difficult. The things that can be difficult are First things first you have to visually inspect every part of the crane daily checking for any and all defects no matter how trivial. All defects must be documented and submitted immediately to management and mechanical engineers. This includes even the smallest bur on reeving. Setting up the crane. It has to be level and on firm ground, if not you have to make it so before any lift. This can be a monumental task if you're in muskeg. You want to be as close to your lift as safely possible Rigging. All your straps, chains, cables whatever you're lifting with need to be inspected and the load rating tags must be on them and csa approved. Lifting. All loads must have a tag line attached. This is very important and often forgotten or bypassed. This is not difficult. The difficulties with lifting are first, having a good hook tender. If you're dealing with an inexperienced person that is unsure of proper signalling or radio etiquette it's hell. Finally the worst part of being a crane operator is that it seems like there's always another 10 feet to reach and another 1000lbs to lift beyond your capabilities oh and staying awake between lifts is sometimes difficult too lol
