Dutch Drone Gods & Red Bull Create Revolutionary Filming Drone. It will change how Formula 1 is viewed. As drone piloting team the Dutch Drone Gods well know, the fastest FPV drone tops out around 180 km/h (112 mph). But over a year ago, Red Bull asked them if they could design, build and pilot a drone that could film a complete overhead lap of a Formula 1 car going full-tilt. The request was insane. It's not just that F1 cars can surpass 350 km/h (217 mph); it's that during a lap, the cars are also braking, accelerating and turning at neck-snapping rates. To match the pace, a drone would not only have to be quick, but nimble; and it would have to be light enough to keep up, yet carry a battery large enough to sustain its insane output for the entire lap. No such drone exists. Assuming they can clear the safety regulations, surely all F1 races will be filmed in this way in the future. https://lnkd.in/ei6E9BXP

Well, what I can say, this combines two things that I love as an engineer, #f1cars and #drones. Interesting enough to see the drone race day as a product launch and how requirements were changing on-the-fly 😂 as they were testing before getting Max in his #RB20. Checking products design aspects as battery endurance, weight, aerodynamics, drivability while collecting feedback from systems and people. A really good example of physical product management well executed. Kudos to #dutchdronegods and Red Bull Racing & Red Bull Technology. If you want to understand the ASTOUNDING IMPACT that DRONES will have on the world and the future, watch this video. Note: Ukraine has already absorbed these lessons and is building the "drone first" military. That a team of engineers can retool and build a drone for this type of exacting requirements in a matter of days is just insane- and it tells you how accessible drones are to innovation. Drones really are an amalgam of exponentially improving tech -- cell phones (and their processors), sensors, and battery tech. Drones have real physical limitations -- weight to power ratios, thermals, etc. But even within their envelope, applications are amazing. This is why I believe we are going to see an explosion of drone usage very, very soon for many new tasks. #drones #technology #f1
