👇 Top tips for charities on claiming Gift Aid: 1. Make sure the Gift Aid declaration identifies the donation properly, as this is often overlooked. This can also include past donations (up to four years) and future donations until further notice. 2. Where there is a change of personnel, you must update HMRC with details of the authorised officials relating to Gift Aid claims via a “ChV1” form. This is often overlooked and can invalidate claims. You can have up to two authorised officials. 3. Although not yet mandated, start collecting donors’ full first name, rather than just their initials, if you don’t already. This will save you having to go back to all your existing donors to get this information to continue making valid claims. 4. Don’t forget to remind higher rate and additional rate taxpayers that they can also claim additional tax relief from HMRC – this may help encourage more generous donations.
